Just caught up with an old thread about parking at IKEA in Spain and the old topic of their Meatballs came up! Now l have tried them but for the life of me l can’t get my head around why they are so popular and almost raved about by many that the sole reason for visiting is the meatballs.
My rating one star ⭐️ and that’s a dim one as l not even sure they are meat.

We are close to an IKEA but have found the Swedish style meatballs at Iceland are equally as good. Often have them in a Pasta bake. Make a quick, cheap meal for a family.

I've gone off their meatballs but love the gravy that went with them, you've reminded me that I have some packets in the cupboard.

I've never had IKEA meatballs but, from what you have written, you have never lived in Sweden.

Meatballs are what childhood memories are made of to the Swedes and I can concur.

Reindeer meat and mother's special sauce (it the sauce that makes the difference), delicious! 👍

I agree they are total crap. And anyone that says they are good probably likes Fray Bentos pies as well.🤣🤣

I have never had them either, but got to ask, what meat are they made of? Is it Reindeer?
It sounds very much like eating raw Herring as they do out there, never tried either, but I do like roll mops, so would give it a go for sure.

Probably doesn't look better as it's, usually, fairly pale but again usually , tastes better! 👍

If you have eaten roll mops, you have eaten raw herring. 😄

There nothing wrong with FRESH raw herring. 👍

IKEA meatballs are just pork, beef and a bit of seasoning. There's nothing weird about them. The gravy and jam that goes with them is what makes them popular. They aren't gormet, but they are pretty tasty for the price.

It’s not the entering thats worrying, it’s the exiting if you don’t want the 10 mile walk😉following the one way system if you want to get out.
Strange, it just occurred to me, although I visited IKEA in Sweden about 40yrs ago? I have never been inside one in Britain, unless it was the first one near Wembley on the North Circular when it first opened? 🤔

Yes, I agree to what you say, but I always assumed that if something is pickled in vinegar or citrus then it is actually "Cured" which to me means cooked, same with Gravelax salmon is cured with salt.
I don't know what they do with the herring fillets, cured with salt or vinegar, however I have seen them tilt their heads back with mouths wide open to drop a whole fillet in their gobs and start chewing.:giggle:
I will given the chance have a go at them, as they are raved about by those brought up on them.

I think you're right pickled as in rollmops is totally different to raw with raw onions! Tried the raw ones once but never again.

Agree with you.A
We make our own from a Mary Berry recipe for beef meatballs but we use lamb instead.
Delicious.

My mother was not well and had to leave quickly at a newly opened store.

There was a lovely wide staircase leading to the exit with a young staff member guarding the red rope to stop people making an easy exit

I asked her politely to.move the rope so.my mother could leave

She refused

I asked again

She refused

I then raised my voice a level and gave her my welsh dragon lady look (anyone with a Welsh mother knows the look)

Asked her to choose move the rope and let us leave swiftly

Or call an ambulance while I call the gutter press

Now let us pass please

Positive outcome we left . I have never returned so don't know if I'm banned

The difficult bit is finding your way out again. :)
It’s easy; just consistently follow one side i.e. left or right. Like a maze. It just takes a long time. And you end up with a bag of tea-lights, plastic coat hangers, picture frames, plastic chopping boards and toilet brush-holder called Farage.(Apparently also available in white.) 🙂

Reminded me of when l was a lad we used to eat Spanish onions like they were apples😂😂 before girlfriends.
I’ve just remembered something else from when l was about 12 years old, went to Otley which edges the Yorkshire Dales where you can hire boats on the river.

We hired one and came across a Turnip with all the greenery still attached floating in the river, being young and stupid we thought we had found a Water Melon, never seen one, most people hadn’t in 1957 so we pulled it out of the water and found a quiet spot and attempted to eat this rare treat,it didn’t end well.
The things you do as kids.

We buy swedish meatballs from Sainsburys. Cant remember the make. Which we like. We always have a hot dog at Ikea when we visit, which we havnt done for about 3 years!
