Hi I’m looking at fitting a max air fan into my coach built motorhome for when I’m travelling in Europe to help keep my van cool at night but not sure where to fit it I’ve got space above our bed or above the cooker I’m thinking above the bed might be better for keeping it cooler at night when we are sleeping does anyone have any opinions as to which would be better

Hi, for me not having mine above the bed was our best option - even though they run very quiet I would find it annoying just above us, I removed the skylight from the living area & with a few mods it is now fitted snugly in place, we have the skylight above our bed cracked open & run the fan at 20% OUT, you can feel the cooler air drifting over your body (gert lush) & not hear anything from the fan.

If you have it over the bed, for info - the white covered Max Fan is the only blackout cover.

The smoke and black let light through to different degrees, the smoke being pretty transparent.

I wouldn't say it was anywhere near blackout. Still needs a screen if you are sensitive to light in when trying to sleep. We usually end up pulling the blind across on ours at night unless its really hot.

WE have had Fantastic Vents in our last two Motorhomes (it's a similar product).
The one in the last van was in the centre above the kitchen brilliant at keeping both the bedroom & lounge cool. In the current van it's at the front of the bedroom keeps the bedroom cool but hardly any effect on the lounge.

So go for the middle.

We've got a maxx air directly over our cab drop down bed. Noise isn't an issue. Far better to have it whirring away than sweating. But I got the clear hood and the blind. The blind pretty much blocks the airflow. In hindsight, I would have preferred a darker or even blackout hood. But I'm happy with the position.

I’ve posted this before elsewhere but …

I made simple foam pads which cut out all light and also insulate in really bad weather.

We really only use them when travelling on motorways for sound deadening, not that it is a big issue.

I understand that IKEA do similar and very cheap (seat) pads that do the same job.

We are lucky enough to have two, one fore, one aft. They work brilliantly and quietly together.

Can I ask a related question.
I have a Maxair fan above the bed.
I know I will find out but do you set yours to in or out at night?
Bear in mind that I don't have anything else open for security.

You need another window or rooflight on vent to get an airflow.
Best sucking out with side windows on vent.

If it is really hot we have the rear (bed) fan on IN, as the airflow is directed right onto us.

Otherwise we have the front fan on IN as it creates a very gentle waft across the bed. I would imagine that it’s similar to your bed fan being on OUT?

Fitted our Maxxfan over the kitchen where it replaced an aircon unit, which never got used as it needs hookup. In fairness our unit works more as an extractor fan for the kitchen area - spent half an hour this afternoon cleaning it!
But it is effective in creating a breeze if we open one of the other roof vents and set it on extract.

Ours is a white on over the twin beds. On a hot night we find IN works best. If you have a choice of two places why not splash out on two. They also make a good extractor for the kitchen and are relatively easy to clean compared with some competitors.
