Hi all has anybody been to the Marina Keep parking in Portsmouth recently as i am going over to Normandy in June and need a over night stay before i get on the morning ferry. Also can you park up in the port at night. Sorry for the newbie questions but i havent been abroad in a long time first trip in about 15 years thank you

There a few weeks back but only for a few hours as we sometimes stop there for lunch and walk the dogs when returning from a trip away before heading home, although we only live 15 min drive it’s easy parking and some good places to eat.

Yes, very convenient stopover even if the car park’s on a bit of a slope. 👍

Used it in April prior to 8am ferry. There’s nothing not to like other than a bit of noise from the comings & goings of cinema & restaurant customers, but wasn’t intrusive and all was quiet by about 11:00pm. Enjoyed a Thai restaurant in Port Solent, but there’s also Spanish, Italian options and even a spoons!

As far as staying overnight at the port is concerned, officially you are allowed to stop in the check in lanes after midnight. In practice we have often arrived sooner than that and just parked up by the fence well over to the left without anyone asking us to move. That's been out of season, mind you, so might be different at busy times.

Looks like a good spot for me to overnight before or after Morey Adams visit re clutch fluid change ... Unless someone knows different??

Can somebody please confirm that it is the public car park everybody talks about at Port Solent, behind the restaurants and close to the cinema? We may use in in a few weeks, but was there last weekend in our car and noticed quite a few vans during the day in the public car park. It’s just that when I’ve read posts previously about calling security etc. I assumed it was a different spot? appreciate if somebody could confirm 👍

Thats what we do, 15 mins to AM even in rush hour.

A word of warning, the like the Motorhome to park in the far car park which is by the David Lloyd (also closer to the restaurantts). Make sure you park where you can get out you get stupid car drivers earring for the gym in the morning who don't understand large vehicles need more space to man over.

Yes that's the one, they ask you to call security if you are overnighting & they take your reg number. When you call them they are really nice very polite & friendly. They prefer you to park in the end car park by the David Lloyd.

Great thanks Lenny, appreciate the confirmation! 👍

Yes the Thai is very good but a bit pricey, the Bugers & Bangers is a bit sparce and not very enjuring but the burgers are awesome.

Excellent place to stay. Will be there 2 weeks today. Spoons breakfast and a large Field to walk the dog before afternoon ferry. (y)(y)

I mentioned the restaurants to my catering department but was informed that our staff dining area will be open during that period ....

Sounds about right, if you’ve been there you should recognise the location pictures on ‘search for sites’ From my recollection as you approach Port Solent the car park is visible on the right, you go over a couple of speed bumps and at a small roundabout turn right and then bear right into the car park. Cinema is clearly visible. When I stayed (wet Thursday evening) there was plenty of space, about 10 vans at most parked up, most arriving quite late.

I've finally got my staff trained, it's taken years of perseverance. She doesn't whinge like she used to when I mention a restaurant, I think she has had enough of my whinging if I don't get my way. :giggle:

you go over a couple of speed bumps
Those speed bumps are a killer even at 15 mph they will send you into orbit.
Our first time I went over one at 20mph it was horrendous and I've got full air suspension, I thought I'd broken the suspension.

Good to know!

The second one just before the small roundabout is particularly vicious. As for parking, if you continue on towards the sea wall, you can park up there as well without having to contact lock control. There's a space to turn round just before the Navy Fire School gates.

Navy Fire School
Oh memories 😂 that’s where we (army ) did fire fighting btrsining during the firmans strike 1978 , the navy lads put us thru the mill ! Number one nozzle , water on , ONE SOLDIER ON THE NOZZLE , when three needed !!!!! Thank you Royal Navy

Haha, did my fire fighting Navy training there also…..now was it spray jet or jet spray nozzle……one was a wall of water while the other was the jet to fight the fire! Blimey still remember! 🤪

Last time I was there I saw no longer allowed anymore, probably as a result of longtermers staying on roadside.

Is your van Euro6?
I'm sure I read on here somewhere that Portsmouth has introduced a clean air zone and the docks are just outside the boundary, but not sure how that affects your planned stop over.
if you're Euro6 compliant then it won't apply to you.

You are ok at the roundabout to the ferry port, if you venture down to the next roundabout you are in the zone.

Bit of a pain for certain people who go on holiday to the isle Of White ☹️☹️

I still don’t know why the government hasn’t excluded camper vans and Motorhomes from these schemes. They’re majority infrequent use vehicles and potentially spend and bring in tourism.
A guy at work had a Peugeot van and was going to get charged for driving to work through the caz. He traded it in for a Peugeot car based on the van (postman pat shape) but with windows and back seat. Same diesel engine but a car on log book and he now doesn’t get charged. That’s how daft the scheme is.

Had the same at the Dartford toll years ago, I had a Mitsubishi Shogun that had been converted to a van but got charged a car rate when going to the contract I had the other side, I had one of my lads in the other little Clio van that was charged the commercial vehicle rate yet weighed a third of mine and had a lot smaller engine🤔🤔🤔
Tried to sort it out but they wouldn’t listen 🤬🤬
