Well , I'm not an expert by any means, but the Eco- System report says there is a lack of oxygen in the water, plants under water are dead , fish are dying, and stench in many places, and finally they said it's probably due to agriculture, and even taking action now it will take 20 years to recover!! You won't catch me swimming in itJust got in from a bike ride and cut into the prominade for a short bit, about 7 or 8 fishermen there. I asked one how he was doing and he said it's getting better, so things are improving by the sounds of it.
And see people in it every day swimming.
No it's such a pity we have been there several timesmaybe the guys i seen ,were not actually swimmer more floating on a thick gungy surface .
but in reality ,not a good thing for the mar menor .
& it has been for the 20 years that I have lived here.they are saying it's so polluted it's unfit to swim in .
It is water run off in to the mar menor taking agricultural chemicals with it . & why most chemical usage was banned a long while ago but agriculturalists still use them. The only way to completely stop it was to ban agricuture inland there completely.and finally they said it's probably due to agriculture,
