New van on order comes with lengthy manufacturer water ingress warranty (so long as navigating checks kept up).

However, planning dealer fit Maxxair or similar in place of OE roof vent. These vents seem to require drilling/screwing into roof (in addition to new sealant).

Does anyone have experience of how the original manufacturer’s water ingress warranty is impacted, if at all, by a dealer fit item on roof which involves additional fixings into the roof?

I am more interested in the experience of owners over the dealer.

Thank you in advance.

I've had 4 new vans always fitted my own solar and other bits never had a problem with it affecting warranty, all been German vans.
Just replaced a rooflight with a Maxxfan no holes required if you use the right adhesive.

I've just asked the same question to the German carthago dealer, re hole for wifi antenna, answer not a problem, it's normal to do this.
I'm pretty certain if there was a problem with the antenna hole it would be down to us, not the manufacturer.

Did you get your Carthago from a dealer in Germany? I wonder if the same courtesy would be extended to one procured through a UK dealer.

I can see that the manufacturer wouldn’t be held responsible for dealer or DIY fit items that affect water ingress. It is helpful that a German dealer confirmed that Carthago would continue to warrant 10 year water ingress protection for everything other than mods and new exterior penetrations.

Thanks for your reply Lenny HB

What is the ‘right adhesive’ to use? Could you be specific and how you arrived at it being suitable for the MaxxAir roof light ventilator?

It is precisely this type of post-manufacturer mod that I would like to have done but I’m not up for replacing an adhesive lay bonded Heiki to a screwed and glued MaxxAir due to potential multiple water ingress points at the roofline. If the MaxxAir self tapping screws are un-necessary if the right adhesive is used, then the right adhesive is the way to go. Please do tell.

I’m picking the new van up end of January, so sill get a definitive answer then, but the dealer has stated in writing that fitting no a mifi antenna doesn’t effect the water ingress warranty.

I was told by my Burstner dealer that any after market fitting not done by them would invalidate the water ingress warranty. However, that would only be the case for leaks in that specific area. i.e. a problem in the garage area would not be void if the aftermarket work was in a roof vent as there clearly is not connection between the two.
