I recently bought a nearly 3 year old AutoTrail motorhome. I also bought an extended warranty mainly in order to cover the mechanical aspect. I still have 2 years Autotrail warranty.

I have an issue which appears to be a manufacturing defect and asked the Dealer to refer it back to Autotrail. There reply was:-

"Your vehicle is covered by the Gold car care plan warranty and not directly with Autotrail"

This is worrying as it implies that the extended warranty makes the manufacturers warranty invalid. It's also concerning, in that, I was offered a free bronze warranty, which I did not consider as it only covered a maximum of £3000 which in view of the cost of parts and labour didn't seem to be covering much at all. Would this have the same effect?

Would be interested in others thoughts.

I stand to be corrected but as far as I am aware Autotrail only give a 3 year with what’s is listed as covered decreases after the first and again second year. Most bolt on warranties will cover anything that does not break down and nothing that does. With more dodgy exclusions than some politicians. It is is a manufactures defect it may come under goods supplied fit for purpose. If you would care to give more information we may find something to go on.
