I recently up plated my Campervan and today the V5 arrived in the post. I got what I asked for, 4000Kg revenue weight and Private HGV, but as many people report on MHF - the MAM remains blank. The campervan (yes its a PVC) MAM has been blank since the van was first registered, in fact the only vehicle that I own that has a MAM weight shown on the V5, is the car.

I know that it would be sensible if the DVLA automatically matched the Revenue Weight and MAM and that I can send the V5 back to the DVLA with a covering letter and ask for the MAM to be the same as the Revenue Weight.

However, I really do not want to send my V5 off to Swansea again - so in real terms
  • Does a blank MAM really matter?
  • What does (excludes m/c) actually mean? Is the reference to m/c a motor caravan? (It is not motorcycle, as the DVLA call them a bicycle!)
  • Do EU country registration documents have the MAM recorded?
  • Importantly for me - Has anybody actually had a problem when in the EU when your UK V5 - MAM section was blank.
If I was challenged by the authorities on weight in the EU, then surely showing them the V5 with 4000Kg GROSS and the SV Tech vehicle weight plate which states the same gross weight as the V5, would be sufficient!

I wait to be enlightened..........

As it is blank I wouldn't worry about it, only time worth getting it corrected is if it is different to the revenue weight.

But 'Revenue Weight' means nothing outside UK, as not shown on other V5 equivalent, which is why it appears in [ ] on UK V5. Only UK law says that it is based on MAM.

It may not show on the V5, but should show on the latest plate,( there may be more than one) usually under the bonnet, issued by SV tech.
