On 2 occasions I have been unable to plug either of my 2 ehu cables (good quality) into the campsite main socket. In each case the site found me a lead. The issue was that the shaft of the plug on my EHU was short by say 2/3mm so could not go in enough to then be able to turn the circular knob just above the socket. Without being able to turn that knob there was no juice!

I have spent fruitless time on line trying to identify the distinguishing feature needed. Can anyone please point me to the correct description or a suggested stockist. I am baffled that such plugs are not one standard?

Thanks for that suggestion. I have opened up the plug - you can wobble the 2 smaller pins a little but the earth pin is solid. However the movement is very small and you cannot do anything to eliminate the slight wobble. That said I think I did get the cover tighter to the plug by careful tightening of the screws and lining up better.

Unfortunately until we are on a site with the circular knob that makes the live connection I cannot check it?

I did offer each plug up against each other and once the 2/3 mm depth difference!

???? What's that about I've never seen anything like that?
It’s a caravan club thing Lenny , you plug in and turn the socket that connects the power.
To unplug you press a button that returns the unit to the unplug position.

You need to do a few more sites 😉🤣

Where did you get your EHU cables from?

Hi Eddie

Can you help me- I did check a lead I had made up and the depth on the male fitting was only about 32mm where the others are about 37mm. So perhaps in theory I should be OK with the 2 deeper plug leads?

One came with my van and was a new 25 metre Crusader cable. I now suspect that the in between length cable I made up with fittings bought online which are marked “Lee” is the culprit because of the 32mm depth of the plug. I wish I could be certain it was that lead each time but it would make sense.

It is frustrating that I cannot yet check easily if this sorts it!

Are you buying them from a cheap shop or stall? Lots of Chinese ones out there that are very poor quality and probably not to CEEFORM spec. Something like https://cpc.farnell.com/pce/013-6/plug-16a-3p-ip44-230v/dp/PL15567?st=ceeform 16a plug from a reputable on-line supplier or somewhere like CEF, Rexel or TLC.

I bought some cheap ones for stage lighting and ended up throwing them away, and now only use PCE 'Shark' for that purpose although still have some I need to retrofit.

The Toolstation one is a good call, certainly the grey cased one that looks as though its a PCE product. The other white cased ones shown in the other pictures of the same item I would want to look at up close as they are very similar if not the same as the cheapo's I bought and do not have the twist cable grip.

It's been a wee while since I got the one from Toolstation but I'm sure it was the grey one. Typically, don't have that one with us to check!

There's also one from Screwfix (MK) and fitted one to somebody else’s cable but wasn't greatly enamoured with the screwless design!

I have this very socket for my welder, and the plug right underneath that listing. It works and the turn switch locks the plug in. You have to turn off to pull the plug out.

Well the proof of the pudding is that you borrowed a lead and it worked

Cut your losses, actually cut your plugs off and replace with decent quality ones
