Hello, I have a two year old Chausson 650 on a Ford chassis with the standard mains charger and AGM batteries. Question is, should I leave the mains connected when not in use or just every now and then as the batteries run down?

AGM batteries not not like being left to run down. especially in winter.

If your charger and batteries are the ones fitted by Chausson, then my advice would be to leave the mains coonnected 24/7.

That is how Chausson intended it to be.

The mains charger should also keep the engine batttery topped up as well.

Hello, I was told by dealer that the engine battery will not charge unless engine running as if they connect the mains charger into the Ford wireing it invalidates the warranty!
Sounds mad.

If you're leaving it unattended I wouldn't leave a high powered charger connected, under battery fault condition it can get hot. I use an optimate 1 Duo that is very low powered (0.6a) not enough to get anything hot but maintains the battery perfectly 👌😎

Pechris You could solve this If you fit a Vanbitz battery master , it will trickle charge you starter battery from the leisure battery anytime it is being charged , without using the Ford wiring. ( It can be purchased through the Motorhome Fun shop, that is in the classified section , and is easy to fit)

If you have solar and the van gets sunlight it should be enough to keep the battery charged during periods you are using the van. We only have 240watt panel and a Votronic battery master, van and hab battery OK even in winter. We are on the south coast so maybe that helps.
