Just returned from five super days at Lyndon Top, cycled around Rutland Water one day, along the peninsula another day and also into Oakham the following day. Visited the nature reserve and were lucky to see Osprey and their almost fully grow chicks - a real treat! A super camping area, just water, Elsan point and lots of space and only £15 a night.
Can anyone recommend similar camping sites?
Thank you.

We're at Lyndon now, arrived this morning, this site was brought to my attention in another thread earlier this year.

Great place, loads of room, and not busy at all about a dozen units where we are, overlooking the lake.

Will be visiting the nature reserve, as well as some cycling.

I'd have though it would be packed, being school holidays. We stopped there for a few days in mid June on our way back from Scotland and the weekend was quite busy, only thinning out late on Sunday.

It was fairly quiet tbf.
I imagine the BH will be flat out though.

Looks great but I think we would like EHU so we could recharge the bike and kayak batteries.

Its hardly ever packed. Huge place no marked pitches.

If you mean acres of space and nice views - Shell island

Campingintheforrest sites suit us.
EHU available on most sites, loads of wildlife, choose your own pitch in amongst the trees if you like or out in the open, dont get lines of vans like a normal campsite. No Dogs allowed on some sites as there is so many animals, like cows, horses, deer etc, but most do allow dogs that are on leads and accompanied.
No Shower blocks, no Toilets, just fresh water, black waste dumps and recycling bins all for £13.50 per night for two adults and over 60 discount's apply, EHU is extra, but we dont need it if we get the sun through the branches for the best part of the day.
Great Cycle/walking routes to nearby towns, mostly off road if you choose the New Forrest sites.
We always find a site with vacancies, just scroll through all the sites and you should be OK, buts hard to choose as there are so many good ones, all offering slightly different aspects.
Wish all sites could be priced this way.

Just finished a 15 mile cycle ride around the lake, surprised at the amount of 'uphill' sections, so glad I converted our bikes to electric, it made it very easy 😀

Yes it is quite hilly!
