Still dropping clangers and making it up as I go along
I had what I thought was an all singing and dancing policy annual policy so decided to claim

Answer was no chance as the holiday was cancelled due to flight delays they don't want to pay for hotel overnight spoke to a I'm sorry but I'm just a call handler to tell you LV is busy
But yes you should be fine
Guess what they're not paying

This is only the 2nd time I have ever had to claim the last time 40 years ago i had the car was stolen then not an issue

If they cannot be trusted with a flight delay am certainly not trusting them with the van

Go back to them - never accept first refusal - ask for your claim to be reviewed by a senior claims handler.
Make the point that the cancellation wasn't your fault and not down to your unwillingness to travel.
Re-make the claim in writing, create a paper trail.

Had the same when my Vietnam holiday was cancelled at the start of Covid. Travel company refunded everything except the airport hotel the night before & carparking.
At first, the claim was refused but paid out after I asked them to reconsider.
I also asked for their complaints procedure & details of the Ombudsman ;).

I have cancelled the policy not really lost anything as car stayed where it was, Ryanair refunded the cheap bus transfers are in the process of doing so, lucky due to comments on here I'd cancelled the hire car so no cost there.
The only thing I wanted was the £159 hotel bill but hey-ho
Cannot be bothered to fight these people for that much just need to make sure I don't get ill, run over or fall down and break something. And there ate thousands of cobbles in olheo waiting to pounce
PS
Cancelled policy within 14 days so full refund
So with all the cash back I have not lost a huge amount as Portugal is more expensive than Spain and the hotel I booked is an upgrade and we'll worth it only 36 covers in the restaurant and the food this morning was divine

Oh crumbs, couldn’t you have cancelled it once safely home?

No because would not get the refund as the 14days are up.

I can recommend Nationwide travel insurance (We have a Flexplus joint account).

Recently had to cancel a holiday where we had already paid £1800 deposit, filled in the online claims form, they phoned us within a few days to ask a few questions, the money was in our account, minus £100 excess within days.

Ah, I though it was a long standing annual policy. Fair enough then. We went to France, Belgium recently and didn’t bother.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed if I needed to get back the funster taxi service may help

One of my friends took his mother and family to France for a long weekend. She fell over and broke hip and shoulder and needed urgent hospital treatment/surgery. Has not has the hospital bill yet but the private ambulance to get her back into a UK Hospital cost £3800

Having had a few ambulance trips this year, I know that I would be more comfortable in the back of our camper even with a broken hip.
It would be different in a ca4 and having to find hotels and things.
We do have sufficient funds to cover eventualities, what I don’t have is the time to spend the hours on the phone every trip. We are both always refused annual cover and my last quote for 2 weeks was £850 and that was before this year’s heart attack.

My mum many years ago wrote my car off by rolling it a couple of times (black ice) demolished a road sign and a lamp post. Oddly enough the car ended up the right way up in the car park………of the local ambulance station. She said the ambulance trip to Colchester A&E was worse than the accident. Don’t remember my last couple of rides - morphine…… but a friend works near Gatwick maintaining ambulances and says that many of them now have full air suspension, which can only be a good thing
