says the other driver escaped with just a broken arm, given the nature of the accident, maybe they were already sedated prior...........................

It was a hire van apparently so they can pretty much walk away if they paid the insurance waiver, still a very traumatic experience for them though.

Very lucky.
After our recent isle of Arran trip , we were both surprised at how fast alot of " hire" vans went past us on the motorway. Despite driving rain and high winds , driven with little regard as to what might happen.

Living in Scotland I see a lot of rented vans being driven like cars.
