In northern Portugal at the moment and need to fill with gas. The garages we have tried don’t have adapter to fit. Have we been unlucky or will it be the same everywhere? Anyone any experience of filling in Portugal.

Most people carry their own adaptors. I have two the one you need is the euroadaptor. Might be worth trying a MH spare part section or try and borrow one. Some of the Spanish garages have them but certainly not all of them. The Spanish / Portuguese euroadaptor is the same.

Most garages I used in Portugal offered the adapters, but I carry my own. You should find one that will have them.

Thanks for the reply’s the garages we have tried had the euro adapter but the thread was too small for the uk filler.

Recently I discovered that although I carry the standard three adapters, there are one or two more now being used, at least in Spain. I have had to borrow one twice recently.

Yes being metric they are far smaller & are M10 thread whereas the UK fitting , & adaptors required, are all 1/2" bsp I believe?

Just as an aside I have an Italian/French dish fitting with German acme screw thread on the outside & with an M10 thread in the centre where I have to use the UK bayonet or Spanish euroadapters .
The small size of the thread for the adapator means that when I use it I do not allow the gun to hang on the fitting but trap excess hose under my foot to take any chance of the gun snapping the fitting.

Typical we left Braganca last Friday near Chaves now. Was hoping to meet another Brit. and perhaps borrow one. Feeling outnumbered at the moment only French German and an odd Dutch with the wrong connection ☹️

I was near Rota when I discovered I did not have the new fittings, the service engineer came out with several fittings I had not seen before.

we only had one garage that didnt have the right adaptor in 3months spain and potugal so yes it does sound like you have been unlucky

When we filled up in Travis they used the dish adapter same as France

Problem solved I think,a Dutch couple are parked nearby have the correct adapter and have kindly lent it to me so will go and fill in the morning (hopefully )

Problem now solved, filled with gas this morning. No prizes for guessing what my next purchase will be. Anyway thanks again for all the replies much appreciated.

When you do get the new adaptor, would you mind putting a photo of it on here or pm me please. We are just about to enter Spain on our way to Portugal. Would be handy to have one, just in case. Kev.

This is the one used in Spain & Portugal, there are two types with and without a non return valve you need the one without. If you can't find one it's easy to push or drill out the valve.

This one also used in Portugal, same as France, Italy & Greece.

Is it a problem to have the nonreturn valve? Mine has but I have not had to use it up till now. Presumably there will be a small amount of liquid gas trapped behind it but as long as I am aware of it and have proper cryo gloves I would have thought it was OK.

There is already a non return valve in you inlet sometimes causes problems filling as you get a build up of liquid gas between the two valves which makes disconnecting even more hazardous.
