LPG in France-users’ experiences

Reading the info on the myLPG app I noted that all Total service stations have stopped filling cylinders of all types irrespective of whether there is an outside filler.

If true, this is a set back for us because a lot of filling stations have stopped supplying LPG and Total remain one of chains that show GPL on their forecourts.

On motorways, we’ve noticed that fewer services now offer LPG than in previous years. It also seems that almost all that do offer GPL, now require you to estimate your needs and to prepay for your estimate. It would also seem that if you overestimate your needs, getting a refund of the excess prepayment, is not automatic.

We currently are 75% full (1x11kg Alugas bottle) but we’re heading to Marseillan tomorrow and will be stopping at aires on way down so the fridge and water will reduce our stocks.

Some good news would be welcome!
 
We filled twice in total before going to Spain.
 
Never had a problem in France but I try to avoid filling up France due to the high oily residues in their gas.
 
I've never been refused GPL in France, including at a lot of Total sites.

LPG is still very plentiful in France. I wouldn't worry about it.

We may have no option but fill up in France as we’re here till mid October.

When I filled up there last year the gas filter on the bottle that took most of the after using most of it I had 5 - 6mm of oil in it. If your fridge starts playing up it will probably be the French gas not a fault on the fridge..

There is GPL in Agde and I filled up last week in Beziers.

I’ve git a Trauma filter and have filled up in France on several occasions. When I last checked the filter before leaving Blighty it was clean. Touch wood we’ll be lucky.
 
If you're truly stuck, there s always the large Campinggaz bottles. Expensive and butane, I know, but with the right fitting (easily obtainable ) it can get you by for a while. My fridge etc still worked fine with it.
 
Prepay is only authorisation, no money is taken until the transaction value is determined.
 
I had one chap at a French motorway fuel station ask me what the gas was for, and I just said for the engine, he just shrugged his shoulders and turned the pump on. Just a teeny weeny fib.

The French government usefully provide up to date information on fuel locations and prices, including a map interface.

If you tick the LPG tickbox it will show you availability of Autogas across the whole of France. (Spoiler - there's loads!) (y)

Always fill up twice each time we go to France. Never had a problem or been refused even with our internal filling point. Have had to do the pre pay twice but both times given them money (20€ ) and then gone back to get refund/change after.
