My Japanese gas bottle needs refilling in Spain and I can't figure out what type of adapter I need. I had someone at a garage refill it once very quickly and easily however I need to refill it again and no one I can find has the right adapter. Any ideas?

Use a non approved bottle and have an accident with it and your insurance will be invalid. Is it really worth the risk of blowing up what looks like a 50k+ Motorhome for the sake of a couple of hundred quid to get the right kit!
I think Japanese imports are way cheaper than that.

It could be a Butane bottle not a Propane one and Butane pressures are very much lower than Propane. I don’t read Japanese, neither can I see all the writing on the bottle. However having put both words into a translator I can see 2 of the 3 symbols used for butane but none of the 3 propane ones.

I think it is time to retire that bottle and buy something safe.

Many of you seem to be making a big deal about it when I think there's really no reason to panic. I imagine the people who work at the petrol stations that sell LPG know about LPG. One might expect they do some kind of training before getting the job.

The fact that numerous Spanish petrol stations have the adapters, some have while boxes full of them and even refill the bottles for you. Would they be doing that if it really was as dangerous as many of you are making out? I doubt it.

It's relative, perhaps many of you here are getting on a bit and with age comes risk aversion, so I'll factor that in, but I'm happy to take a certain level of risk as long as it's not dangerous and I don't consider this to be, given the prevalence of it and I've never heard of anyone's MH exploding because the gas can was filled at a petrol station instead of a company.

The bottle has 7.3kg written on it. I plan to fill it to just over half until I learn a lot more about how they work and potentially buy a foreign bottle that fits the majority of countries around the world. Which country sells the most universally used bottle?
Not always a good idea to as a group of "Experienced" users and then argue the toss if you don't like the advice.
Stay safe what ever you decide to do.

Hi Toby just wondering if you are suffering from the effect of inhaling gas fumes - but seriously think of the implications on your insurance should you have a problem & need to claim not withstanding the potential danger to yourself & your fellow campers. Just buy a bottle.

Why is it considered safer? I’m not doubting you, just puzzled by it.

Google tells it like this:
Fittings to connect gas couplings like propane or acetylene tanks use reverse threads to prevent accidental connection to something other than their designed, intended purpose. This is especially relevant to welding gas like acetylene, that is usually paired with oxygen for cutting and welding.

What the person wants is someone to OK it , you need this Adaptor ,plus it's OK to fill Bottle, instead of taking sound advice from at least one Trained Expert, seems probable Death Sentence to me not to take this advice

I live to fight another day. Still not dead.
But how would the death occur exactly? I would die by the gas tank burtsting open? Its at the back of the van and I sit at the front.
Or would it be by an explosive flame? Where would the flame come from? Its not like if it started leaking I wouldnt smell it or hear it and if I did, its not like I'd go round the back with my cigarette lighter and light one up.
Or would it be death by over-worrying. That seems like the most plausible from what Im reading

Probably by dropping the gas bottle on your foot when lifting it out, getting gangerine in your big toe, making your leg fall off, causing you to fall over and bang your head severely.
Ps if you don't like the answers on here, best not to ask in the first place

What you are risking is known as a BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion). A BLEVE is perfectly capable of blowing a motorhome, caravan or boat completely apart which is why there are regulations.
