Hi Guys
Does anyone have experience of the Gas Flow systems please . What are the advantages and disadvantages ? I am in the Milton Keynes area and there seems to be very few places still selling it ? Is it still a viable option over Calor Gas . Comments and opinions welcome 👍

Nearest one is £1.299 now, must be too close to Sandbanks!

Advantage of refillables is you can fill it whenever you want. If you do this with a Calor, you're throwing away what's left. A lot of vans have space for a European sized 11kg refillable, but not the space for a 13kg Calor, so they end up with 6kg Calors. Finally, you can fill up in Europe (although Italy is hard), whereas with swapped cylinders is a lot more faff switching to the local type. And it's cheaper to run... But you're never going to make the money back.

Personally I run a single 11kg Gaslow. Which lasts quite a few weeks. And the other space in the locker is my toolkit. I'd originally planned to get an underslung tank. But I too was worried about long term supply.

About a third the price of Calor and you can top up when out and about so don't have to wait until a cylinder runs out as you do with Calor. No disconnecting/connecting of heavy cylinders. It all depends upon how much gas you use. If you are normally on EHU it isn't such a financial benefit but I fitted mine for the convenience, not to save money.

We opted for Gaslow in our van. Three years in, no problems filling up. We do have a garage near by, but more often just fill up when away, just as you do with diesel. As Spriddler says no cylinders to lug, no waiting for cylinder to run out. There is a gauge on top of each of our cylinders which gives us some idea of how much gas we have. Remember, not just filling stations, other places as well. Last time we filled up at some sort of haulage yard. The gas was cheap, and they filled up for you!. Found on mylpg. No, we probably wont get our money back, but that was not why we did it. Caravans all had exchangeable cylinder, first motorhome had an underslung tank. we didnt really know much about refillable systems until then, but found it convenient and so much easier, hence opting for gaslow in this van.

It's available at shell at Tongwell 81.9p. Gone down from 99p!! What's that about?

I live in MK but rarely fill up here. I will fill in route, at or on the way home from where I am going. No need to have lots of vendors where you live at all. I use mylpg.eu to find locations of vendors l. Website or app.

I’m live in Mid Beds and have filled up at the Shell off J14 a few times. I heard the pump had been removed?

No, it was out of order or just empty for quite a while but is ok now - and cheapish.

From mylpg.eu - reported 29th sept.

Lots of people still have the calor mindset of " must have 2 bottles so they can change over when one runs out" - So the cost of a twin refillable system is off putting..
But (for most people - but not Lenny HB) a single bottle is all you need, as you fill up at any time - not waiting until the bottle has ran out. This helps keeping the initial cost down and saving on weight and space in the van. LPG (single 11kg bottle) was a no brainer for me , especially when in the EU, where British bottles are not available, but LPG (GPL) is readily available.

We have 2 underslung lpg tanks a 25 litre and a 30 litre we had to have this as a larger tank would not meet the ground clearance requirements. In the gas locker we have had a take off fitted so if required we can use a bottle, such as when parked up for a long time saves having to move. We use the van all year round and although the Truma is good at keeping the van warm it can scoff the gas. Extreme maybe but we will never be cold!!

We are in MK, too. We have an underslung tank and have used the one at Tongwell a few times. There was a period when it was out of order, and I drove to Northampton to fill it up. But it's working again. We filled up there a few months back on our way out to the M1.

We had 2 x 11kg Gaslow bottles fitted a few months back with an Auto switch over and an external filler bayonet fitted. Not sure how true but was told the French garages do not like us brits filling up by connecting directly to the bottles. The engineer came to us and sorted on the drive. Gaslow International...

Does anyone have an auto-switch-over for Calor propane bottles fitted? A full 13kg bottle weighs at least 25kg which is way, way more than I can manage on my own.

Would something like this be OK in a motorhome?

Much more really available in the EU. We have an external filler cap and never had an issue on the forecourt. Carry 2 x 11kg with an auto switch over. Well worth it for the convenience more than anything else. The LPG app is not totally accurate so I normally give the garage a call before setting off.

I’ve filled from the one at Billington Road Garage, Leighton Buzzard on the A4146 a few times en-route to friends in Sundon Park. The pump is on the ‘commercial’ side and was being well used by others at the time.

Just filled up an 11kg bottle Ace energy in Elland just under £14. So easy to refill without the faff of removing and replacing the bottles. Definitely the way to go for us.
