low bridge just found this

Might need an extra blanket at night in that van.

Must have been going a bit quick to that.

good god. I don't know whether to laugh or cry, I wonder if the insures would pay out or if it would go as an act of incompetence?
On a positive side, the toilet cassette looks good to go.

So it is. Wonder if it's someone on here?

Not the kind of thing most would readily admit to I suspect, but what kind of margin for error wound folks allow? The nearby bridge I referred to in my earlier post was 2.7m, in theory my PVC is ok at 2.3m, but mindful it was a bit marginal and aerial fitted I bottled out and turned around. Sat Nav obviously happy given the arithmetic.

Some of the comments in french are not very forgiving but Duct tape ("Un peu de ruban adhésif ") does get a mention so the french motorhomers must be a good target market for Jim to expand MHF

Wouldn’t have even given it a thought if I was a measured 2.3m and bridge was marked 2.7m.

I’m 3.35m and regularly have to judge height of barriers/bridges/structures such as gantries over French fuel station entrances on peage services, which the French seem to be installing with much gusto!

You've got to admit, they did a proper job of that - 10/10 for effort.

I wonder if the insurance company would pay out?
I hope so for the owners .....

I stopped breathing when going under a bridge marked at 2.8m. In my PVC which I'd measured at 2.75.

Yvette has got out and seen us under low bridges a few times in the past just in case.
This was in Italy earlier this year. Note that the height has a sticker next to the "3" and that the motorway flyover or our road slopes from one side to the other, so my thought was this is Italy, is it really 3m and is that on the high or the low side of the motorway flyover?
We are 2.9m high, so I stayed over to the left (wrong side of the road) and Yvette walked backwards keeping an eye for anything catching as I drove through.

I would check all the bridges in Italy, as they all seem to have road works on them, I bet most have sunk somewhat. Making the signs at best a guide, like most of Italy, signs are just guides.

I would have gone for it. I tend to think that the bridge height given will be generous i.e. a cm or two to spare. Maybe I am being naive,

Many years back we had a vw camper, so not very high, but going through a height restriction which was a bit bent,I got mrs Westhamman to see me through. Driving slowly there was suddenly a crunching sound, the skylight was broken, asking politely was she not watching she replied, I forgot about that bit.

They must have hit the bridge at a fair old speed - or just kept their foot on the power thinking they could just scrape under!

It also highlights how vulnerable passengers are when travelling in the rear of a motorhome. Lots of families travel with their children “safely” buckled in the rear seats.

That bridge has had so many 'hits' you would think a gantry with chains either side should be in place.

Very, I will always look at the road surface because if it looks as though it’s been resurfaced there are no guarantees that the height is correct🥴
