Having travelled down through Poland and visiting Auschwitz which was something we both felt we should see we have gone south.
The areas of the Tatra mountains and Pieninski Park on the border with Slovakia are absolutely stunning.
No problem finding free park ups and site fees are really good.
It’s not often we use sites but at £14 to £19 incl EHU they are extremely good value.
The cycle routes are absolutely stunning and the hiking routes are some of the best marked routes we have encountered.
The Velo Dunajec cycle route is 200km.
The hike to the viewing platform at Tryz Korony is about a 3-4 hour round trip( even if Paddleboarder gripped on tightly 😂 )but the views are spectacular.

We went to Poland a few years ago to do a guided hiking tour in the Tatras. It was beautiful. We left the motorhome at a motorhome parking behind a dealers building.

After our trek we spent a few more weeks there and I have to say we were impressed with the cleanliness and tidiness of everywhere we went.

We didn't expect the country to be so nice, especially when we entered from the old east Germany and drove 80+ kilometres on the worst road ever. 80km of rumble strips 😂. Once we'd passed that it was so different. Krakov was beautiful. It's on my thread in my signature. Norway the long way round, starting from p.6

Keep on enjoying your trip 😊

Could you say more about these, please? I'm going to Poland in July and I've never been east of Germany before in a motorhome.

Is there an organised scheme such as stellplatz or aires, or is wildcamping generally tolerated? Thanks for your help.

Judith I hit that section in 2011 when I was moving here. I wondered why all the traffic turned off the autobahn towards Goerlitz but soo found out! I turned off at the first junction and found a good cross-country road to join the A4 which is quite a new M/Way and very good.

I have been trying without success to find out whether it has been resurfaced as we may be going to Berlin soon.

80km of rumble strips, my dogs would have been traumatised ! They don't like it when you cross the three sets of countdown stripes you sometimes get across the carriageway when you approach a junction.
They've never been the same since we had a blowout and the loose tyre tread was thumping the underside of the van.

You should have heard the noise our cutlery drawer made 😂

Blowouts are frightening aren't they? We had one on the A9? in Scotland, heading to Inverness. Two guys working on the power lines on the hill above heard the noise, and came to see what the problem was. They were amazed to find it wasn't a major accident.

Is there any under/over 3.5t shenanigans using the roads, vignettes, go box’s, tolls etc??

You do not say if you are under or over 3.5t.

Over 3.5t one needs an e-toll scheme register see here

It is GPS-based rather than gantries and has to be activated on one's phone for each trip.. It operates on M/Ways and major trunk roads.

For <3.5t there is no national scheme like a vignette, but there are some M/Ways that have toll booths(historic), e.g. A2, A4. The tolls are cheap and certainly worth the money compared with going through towns and villages.

The m25 and m11 are like that.
No , the A11 into Poland was/and maybe still is, the thing of nightmares me.
82 foot concrete slabs laid in the 1930s and never maintained.
I won't be going on it again unless it's been re laid

I registered with e-TOLL Poland. It was a bit of working out how to do it . If over 3.5t and using motorways you need to register. I registered my mobile phone as my on board device.
I had to download a copy of my V5 to the site. I later found out I had to download a copy of my certificate of conformity as they had put me in-the highest toll category.
I have only used the motorway a couple of times on short sections as we have been using A roads which are pretty good.

We have used Park4Night for 99% of our stopovers. No organised system as such.
We have had no problems at any of our chosen park ups.
Make sure you have Polish Zlotys for campsites and shopping in markets and local food places.

E-TOLL also covers several trunk roads (as I posted #11). Map on their website.

The first 8 pictures are the area around the campsite at Sromowce Nizne. The others were in the national park of the Tatry Mountains . We overnighted in the car park at Witów.The park entrance is about 800m away.
