Looking at PVC's

A bit of a curved ball, but what’s your reasoning for it being a PVC? The Hymer C404 or C408 or the alternative badge variant, the Burnster Brevio, might meet your requirements and offer some additional benefits from being coachbuilt. They have a huge top hung door at the back but you do of course miss out on the big sliding side door. They are both PVC sized vans. Another option?

Adria Twin Plus 640 SLB - doesn't have the transverse rear bed we are looking for. Nice van.

Patented Cabbunk - looks like a kids hammock !
Ha Ha, sort of, but very stable and adjustable: I .think there is a guy on YouTube who tests it in an Adria Twin Supreme

It has the foam bit in the middle to give you transverse, or go for the 640SGX or if you don't need the big garage the 640SPB family and that gives you 2 transverse beds in the back.

We've a Dreamer D55 Select, like the V55 & love it. The third bed option is a bit cumbersome design/practicality wise, but possible. They're like rocking horse poo to get hold of at the moment. I setup a little Facebook group about them because when we bought ours 2.5 years ago there was no group I could find that specialised in them - it's called Rapido Dreamer Motorhomes (hope I'm allowed to say it on here?!), but it'll give you lots more info on them. 50k Euros could be a bit tight even for used one?

Best of luck 👍

Hello swishbangers !

We’re considering a PVC as the current coachbuilt is a little too cumbersome for the wife to drive and I’d prefer something more ‘van-like’ as a driving experience. We don’t carry much luggage so downsizing is possible for the right van. We are average height so don’t need to worry about fitting into the van.

We do a lot of weekend travelling and would consider a trailer for holidays.

These are some of our needs,

We need a transverse double bed at the rear (permanent set up but no bunk beds) and separate bed for our 7-year-old preferably something easy to set up at the front of the van in the lounge area

We need a continental van which we can buy in Europe

We need a full size fridge/freezer

We need a separate shower and toilet preferably without a stick-to-you shower curtain

Would prefer a longer van for more comfort

We travel light though a reasonable payload obviously

The Rapido V55 looks like it could be something that would interest us - but I’ve only just started to look so this model is not a benchmark - I need to have some other ideas to compare with

Budget 50,000 Euro –

Any hep with this hopefully not too impossible list of criteria. Looking forward to any replies
Hi good luck with your search. Another important bit of kit on a PVC is an electric, door closing mechanism. It makes life easier and quiter when you return from a noctrnal visit to the loo.

Following my previous comment, here's a Burnster Brevio 645T currently advertised in the UK for £46,000 (26K miles). Not a PVC but no wider, and just a little longer. We had the a shorter Hymer version of this with a drop down transverse bed over walk in storage and circulation space in the rear.

For sleeping, there is a choice of the drop down bed, 4ft 6in x 6ft, or the rear lounge bed, 5ft x 6ft 4in. Although sold as a 2 berth, due to the drop down bed restricting the size of the bottom bed when in use, we have often taken 2 young grandchildren away with us and they've been comfortable on this lower bed. Full rear opening door allows for a view and fresh air whilst eating / relaxing in the rear lounge under cover. The bike rack swings out to allow the rear door to open, it will carry 2 electric bikes and has a ramp to assist loading of the bikes. Pet free, Smoke free, Full service history, Recent MOT
Vehicle registered: 12/09/2014
  • drop down bed over rear lounge
  • 4 belted seats
  • front dinette
  • robust bike carrier
  • solar panel
  • Thule awning
  • electric step
  • gas cylinder refill point (cylinder not included)
  • gas BBQ point
  • reversing camera
  • 2 burner hob
  • 3 way fridge
  • cassette toilet
  • shower
  • cab aircon
  • 2 way heating
  • 100L fresh water tank
  • 90L waste water tank

Try the Mclouis menfys range- price new start from around €45k.
Will have a look but I'm not sure which model. I have to have a look on their website

Graham,

With that spec and configuration in mind a Globecar 640DK is right up your street although I think they stopped producing them 2-years ago.

I could be wrong about their production but a nearly new 640DK would tick all of your boxes.

All the best,

Andrew

We also have the Dreamer 55+. Having had about 8 vans 5 coachbuilts over last 36 years or so the Dreamer is our final one and best ever 'compromise' for us. 😀
Our personal Plus points:
1. Driveable on narrow Devon lanes and reasonable size for supermarkets' car parks as well as friend's drives etc!!
2. Roomy transverse rear bed - I am 6' tall.
3. Very large 3-way fridge
4. Excellent bathroom design effectively gives full width across van and separate shower (patent Rapido design)
5. Good underbed storage.
6. Last but not least some nice 'boys toys' , including adjustable Fiat OEM rear suspension, Truma 6 heating etc with remote Bluetooth gizmo for control and monitoring with yer smart phone and rear remote controls for radio.
There are also fittings for transverse bed just behind the front seats but we have never used it.
Had van 3 years now and hoping it will take us well into our 80's !

Whaaaaaat! No whooshbang? Come on….

Dreamer D55 - nice van, like everything inc the bathroom design and the full size fridge.

However, a new constant has entered the equation. The full size fridge HAS TO BE on the same side as the whoosbang door for sun-management during the hot summer 30 deg C plus. The fridge HAS TO BE full size.

Usually we park nose north with the afternoon summer sun on the LHS of the van. To manage fridge temps and to have a comfortable van we need the open door and fridge on the same side. I can't be moving the van around every day to escape the sun once we've parked up and found our spot. We only move to visit Dia/Mercadona/Lidl to restock the fridge or do the waters.

This van seems ideal..

The shower configuration would be a compromise. Anyone any alternatives

You mentioned your budget was €50,000. Here in Italy we were quoted €55,000 for the Menfys Prestige 4CS,(twin bedded),last October but then a few weeks later prices rose and the Prestige was to be in the €60,000 region.

Nowhere in this thread have I said I'm looking for a new van.

As many of the Mclouis Menfys range,(new),were within your budget I thought it prudent to mention them.

In our experience the normal 3-way van fridges just don't work well at 30deg+ however the van is positioned. ... another reason not to go to Spain in the summer I guess! 😕 😜😎😉

In my experience our 3-way van fridge has coped admirably with temps well up in the 30's. Depends how you treat them. We don't all want and do the same thing. Thankfully !

Sozz Graham didn't mean to suggest we should all be the same, far from it!
Just that many others have said they have to : 1.) Park in the shade and 2.) Fit extra fans to the external fridge vents to get anything like cooling when external temp is over 30 degrees. We just drink warm wine!

No offence taken ! If we spent all our time in the UK under a tree sheltering in the rain then our choice of van would be simpler. We'd be deliberating about which brand of umbrella to buy. A full size COLD fridge is a must. We don't want to be going to the shops every day when we're on holiday.

Our fridge is 90L, which is plenty big enough for our food needs, but I also have a drinks fridge in the back (I had a 12v socket put in especially for it, but it can also run off mains when on EHU. Drinks fridge is 36L so plenty of room for beer, wine and soft drinks. (y)

Drinks fridge is 36L - good idea, but would then have to decide what to sacrifice for the limited garage space.

Campsites here often rent out ordinary fridge/freezers to campers, often seen them behind tents on pitches.

Our friends have just put their 2015 Adria Twin 640 up for sale yesterday at £47k. Immaculate with lots of extras valued at £10k. Here in the UK though.

This looks a bargain almost too cheap????

I was going to say look at WildAx Aurora but they're UK only AFAIK

As for fridges - you know they come in different varieties for different climates - I'm guessing you need "Tropical" [T designator]
Also don't discount having fans fitted to improve performance

The 600 is a two berth, with the option of a very fiddly single third. The 600 is the 6m body and not the 6.3m, which I believe is the 640 maybe?

Probably ex-hire.

I’ve got a 2020 Cliff 600. (y)
