London Low Emission Zone

Maybe one should pint out that to ge to the ULEZ one has to transit the LEZ so while the charge for the ULEZ (£12.50?) is less expensive it is on top of the charge for the LEZ to get to the inner zone.

I like the Manchester approach that any vehicle over 20 years is exempt, but I have not seen an answer tp my question about from what date the 20 years is counted: date of engine, date of base vehicle manufacture or date of registration?

Geoff

If you've paid for the big LEZ, you get the ULEZ for free.

Abbey Wood is within the LEZ. However there may not yet be APNR Camerqs on the access roads. Bexleyheath is likewise within the zone. But as yet as long as you steer clear of the Danson Interchange cameras you will be ok. That poor Mr Khan is short of cash right now , so although he has signs up showing the boundaries there are not always cameras to enforce it. Under 3.5 ton 12.50 per day. Over 3.5ton £100.00 per day. PAY in ADVANCE or it will cost you £1000.00 !!!!
If you open an account with TFL AUTOPAY
YOU Pay if the cameras pick you up only. Without an account you may not know if you have been spotted , if you have not paid in advance the £1000.00 applies.

Crystal Palace is outside the ULEZ. Plotting a route there maybe a challenge depending on your start point.

you only pay ULEZ on the days you move the van in the area.
YEP
but most motorhomes attract a charge of £100 per use/day on road within the ULEZ even those registered for disabled use (ours) whereas for the normal LEZ they're free

Be aware that if your motorhome is over 3.5 tonnes and pre euro 4 it is now £300 to enter the LEZ, and remember it runs midnight to midnight so if you exit after midnight you will have to pay twice.

All I can say is Sadik Khan is a prick
As are most politicians, however he is infinitely than his predecessor!

His predecessor was a man who lied his way to the position, took credit for things he did not start (such as 'getting the Olympics') delivered none of his promises and the only 'legacy' was a cable car, only used by tourists.

We live in Crayford within the LEZ (2 Streets in) there is one camera on our route to the M25 and Dartford it is not an ANPR camera but a traffic management one. They don't tell you which cameras are LEZ cameras as not all ANPR cameras are. I could probably track a route to Abbey Wood without hitting any ANPR cameras but it would be difficult.

Johnson has moved on, in case you haven’t noticed 🙄

Gordon

Huh? What's it got to do with him?

Mayor Livingstone created the lower emission zone on 4 February 2008 and Khan created the ultra low emission zone on 8 April 2019.

No you don't. They are too separate charges.

"Lorries, vans or specialist heavy vehicles (over 3.5 tonnes) and buses, minibuses and coaches (over 5 tonnes) do not need to pay the ULEZ charge. They will need to pay the LEZ charge if they do not meet the LEZ emissions standard."

Was better off with out a mayor

When Johnson took over from Livingstone he suspended the third phase of the LEZ which affected smaller diesel engine vehicles (large vans between 1.205-3.5 tonnes and minibuses under 5 tonnes with more than 8 seats plus the driver’s seat). I wrote to him to urge that, even if he felt unable to make all "leisure use only" vehicles exempt, he could find the compassion to exempt the relatively low number of people affected by the retrospective measure who live within the zone and purchased (what became) non-compliant leisure vehicles well before the LEZ was mooted.

As we are all well aware, Johnson did not exempt anyone.

Apologies!

Perhaps I should rewrite it as

London has superb public transport.
Busses, tube, train, DLR, clipper boats, boris bicycles, rickshaws, Black cabs, Ubers, and even cable car.
All payable by card (Only the Black Cabs will still take cash, if pushed)

Find a site, near a railway station, beyond the M25, there are many.
Simply commute into the centre of London, just like the millions that work there, but live outside.

(Be aware there are dozens of central London stations, so find one that suits what you want to do in the centre of the city, which remember is about 5x5 miles across, so walking from say Harrods to St Paul's is not realistic )
I am from London.. Born and raised in Barking, lived and worked in the proper east end around the Mile End Rd ( never considered Barking as being pucka London )

Last time we went there was New Years Eve for the millennium
We used bus and underground trains.
The bus stank and was filthy and the trains even worse and there was a knife fight in the next carriage to ours on our way home
The streets were as filthy as the transport
Vowed never to return.. Ad really do not know how any one can say LT is superb is beyond me.. Even rats will no longer stay in tube stations !

"Lorries, vans or specialist heavy vehicles (over 3.5 tonnes) and buses, minibuses and coaches (over 5 tonnes) do not need to pay the ULEZ charge. They will need to pay the LEZ charge if they do not meet the LEZ emissions standard."

So I only have to pay £300 a day then LEZ charge. Which has risen from £200.

This does not sound right to me, maybe you're lucky and tfl have imported the details for your vehicle incorrectly but any motorhome over 3.5 tonne that is not Euro 6 is required to pay the LEZ charge.

On 25/11/2021 I emailed the TFL stating that my vehicle was 5.3MGW and could they confirm if I had to pay in the LEZ or not
This morning I received a reply, below is a copy of the relevant part
I obliterated the Reg no

Thank you for the enquiry received 25 November 2021, about the LEZ.
We can confirm that vehicle B*****C meets the required LEZ standards, is exempt from the scheme or is subject to a

Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) you will need to pay the relevant ULEZ charge if you drive or park on a public road in
the zone. You can check the status of your vehicle by visiting the ULEZ website, tfl.gov.uk/ulez.
The ULEZ operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, excluding Christmas Day. The LEZ and DVS operates 24 hours a

Same for me.... 2015 euro5 4.1t
However not knowing London I do find the difference between LEZ and ULEZ very confusing.???

Basically LEZ exemption is Euro 6 (or electric) for large vehicles only and covers (roughly) inside the M25.
ULEZ exemption is Euro 6 (or electric) for small vehicles only and covers the North/South Circular (basically the middle ring road).
Congestion charge exemption is electric only for the inner ring road.

Congestion charge is in addition to the other charges. However, you don't need both LEZ & ULEZ. Those are either/or. LEZ is intended to be prohibitively expensive.

I'm happy for you that you don't need to pay, but the email they've sent you contradicts their own web site, see the link and read where it says HGV's, lorries, vans, buses/minibuses, coaches and specialist heavy vehicles, a few lines below that it says minimum Emission standard Euro VI (NOx and PM) perhaps your motorhome although technically Euro 5 meets the higher standard for NOx and PM?

Well I have given them the make model MGW and reg number so irrespective of the email contradicting the website, I will hang on to the email, as far as I am concerned it is my pass to drive in the LEZ
Now I have to decide if I actually want to drive in the LEZ

Just my Motorbike Reg's into the search engine and 4 of them (fuel Injected) require NO payment, the other two on Carbs have a charge of £12.50 per day.

Both Cars 2.0L VW engines only pay Congestion Charge, the Motorhome rated at 3850kg pays full rate, we do stay at Theobalds Park which thankfully is just outside all the charging areas.
It's easy enough to walk to the overground train into London.

why would I need to pay in advance please? I paid the 2 * LEZ charges the day after each drive so that should be OK?

its not something i'm going to repeat. After hammering down the A3 i crawled along various high streets for about an hour, before accelerating up to the maximum speed limit of 20mph that seems to be in place everywhere. The next day i left the campsite and sat on a bus for an hour to get into central London.

Next year its going to be a train and a Premier Inn at Waterloo.

I notice Portsmouth has also introduced a LEZ, only this week. I think its the thin end of the wedge and pretty much every city centre will roll this out within the next 5 years. It makes me wonder if i'm not better off with a nice clean engined car and a caravan - nip it in the bud.

Ok.. I understand why all these city's are introducing clean air zones.... BUT what will happen in the future when they have achieved their goal and got rid of all the polluting nasty vehicles and the charges they have become reliant on to fill the city coffers disappears.
Who will be next in the firing line to make easy money???
Mothers with pushchairs/prams using pavements.!!!!

Don’t forget that the wind blows the nasty emissions into the LEZ zone. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

in correct ulez is 5plus or better

There is no such thing officially. My suspicion is that a manufacturer used that as a marketing term for their pre-release Euro 6 vehicles and when Euro 6 was actually released, they were reclassified as Euro 6 as they met the emissions requirements.
