Locking up/securing Electric bikes

Can anyone recommend a decent bike insurer for my ebike please.
Value at £3k+ is more than my home insurance will cover.
Don’t need things like competition/race cover for obvious reasons but third party/accident cover is a must, just in case I mow down some old lady. :(
Check your house insurance again as personal 'third party cover' should be included as standard as it covers you - your bike is hardly likely to get up and mow someone down itself so doesn't need its own for this. As for insurance (ie replacement) cover for the bike, Yellow Jersey seems to be the one people go with.

... how on Earth are you supposed to lock a bike to an ‘immovable object’ when locked in a MoHo garage as one Funster has to?
I suppose locking it to a bracket, or even the bed frame (assuming it's not removable), attached to the MH would be sufficient, it's probably so that if they do get the door open they can't just grab the bike and pedal off without having to tacking another locking mechanism first. As some of the garage doors on MHs are very flimsy and can be easily opened I can understand the reason for this.

I too have recently purchased an expensive e bike costing more than my 2016 Honda scooter and as for insurance, premiums prove that claim rates are high......

I’ve just literally purchased a wearable lock known as ‘Locklit’ that for an additional £40 will also cover the loss of the bike if stolen whilst using the lock, please check T’s & C’s for your own peace of mind; the additional cost for insurance is dependent on purchase price of bike but for £40 covers up to the value of £5,000

Certainly not cheap when compared to other products and as already mentioned, if they want it they will take it. However, It ticked all the boxes for me and the insurance gives some peace of mind(y)

@Clarky , We're insured with Yellow Jersey. I think it cost somewhere in excess of £300 to insure both bikes. They have three different levels of cover, so you can choose the one most appropriate to you. We had to go for a higher level because of the length of time we spend abroad. Some companies would not insure for lengthy periods away.
I don't think there's a cheap way of doing it, but our bikes are brand new. As they get older, I hope we'll be able to find something less expensive . If you look at their web site, you can run a quote.
Thanks for that. I will have a look.

Happy Birthday btw. (y):D

Richard.

Thanks @Minxy Girl.
Problem with the garage in a Carthago is that there is nothing exposed to lock something to. Everything is boxed in with just movable tie-down eyes for holding heavy gear and bungee cords for lighter kit.
No doubt I will sort something out or will carry on as at present by self insuring.

Richard.

There is no consistency at all. Re immovable object for instance, a number of insurance companies did not count a motorhome as an immovable object when I phoned round two years ago so would only cover the bikes if we were in the van bur that wasn't any use. In the end Aviva house insurance would cover them but not under bikes, they would only cover them under valuable items but were happy that padlocked to a motorhome was adequate even if we were not in the van. I spent hours on the phone. It's quite bizarre as lots would happily cover ordinary bikes worth £10,000 for quite modest additional premiums but our £2,000 bikes not at all.

Just got a quote from Yellow Jersey for my single bike at £250+.
That only includes 30 days cover in Europe (not really enough as we often go for 6 weeks) and it only covers value of £3k rather than full cost new of £3500.
£250 seems an awful lot just for one bike so I will continue to cover the risk myself.

Richard.

Ours is without house insurance policy but as 2 bikes are over £2.5k each they had to be specified.I believe the premium aspect for the bikes is £80 for the 2 and they do not specify the type of lock. Our House and buildings Insurance is with John Lewes.

We're with Axa home insurance and they covered both our Bromptons for a max of 60 days abroad which cost an extra £16.53 for both, this is the requirement for securing them:

[must be] in a locked building or secured by a suitable locking device to a permanent structure or a motor vehicle

I was watching a guy on YouTube showing how easy it is to pick a lock and he uses this lock, said it can be picked but it's time consuming and not easily done so he uses it with his bike. (Also wouldn't show the mechanism for that reason)

FWIW, with regard to securing a bike to a MH I fit the towing eye to mine, with a good quality D lock through it.

Excellent. This is same as ours  use it on the scooter and Duke when at home (y)

We used all the clever locks.. padlocked them to strong solid objects etc..
Bastards nicked our saddles !!
I replaced the QR things with nuts and bolts after that

I sometimes put a ski lock through the saddles not very strong but only lightly to be an opportunist nicking the saddles.

Now our bikes are 4 years old I'm quite happy with the £1000 cover I get on my Co-op house insurance especially as the Co-op is £300 cheaper than the cheapest other quote as we are classed as a high risk flood area. Been here over 30 years not flooded yet. & the premium went down £60 last year.

The problem with booby traps... How many times have you set the alarm off yourself while faffing about trying to disarm it... I was trying to get the disc lock off the scoot the other day with the wrong key :ROFLMAO:
And how many people came over to see if you were legit ?
Nowadays people are so used to alarms they get ignored :(

Yeah nobody, the owner would take interest though if they hear their own alarm, and the thief won't know where they are so maybe it would scare them off. Nothing's perfect as we know.

Only last month I white van came past me and I could clearly hear a motorbike alarm going off from it.. I was too bloody slow to get the reg number though
