Hi Gang,
I’ve got my hands on a MiFi for the van and now looking at deals for data SIMs.

I’ve a month planned in Ireland (ROI) and then Germany (⚽️).

I’m aware of IQ Mobile, which after activation (£25 inc P&P) is £20/100Gb, but from reading other threads, people seem to get a much better deal with local SIMs (more data, less cost). But mostly are quoting experience of France or Spain.

Has anyone bought a prepay SIM in Ireland? E.g. Three.ie do a Prepay €20/Unlimited. I’m just wondering if you have to prove residency or similar?

Thnx,
Heeb

A couple of years ago I bought a Vodafone SIM in Dublin, I don't recall having to have a local address, there weren't any problems. It was a phone/data SIM, and worked fine in my phone and also in the van router. I'm sure others have more up-to-date info, some funsters live in Ireland, and lots visit regularly I'm sure.

The Irish SIM worked OK in France and Spain too, which may be useful to know if you are going to Germany, it's probably OK there too. But not in the UK, of course.

Why would an Irish sim not work in the UK?

Of course actually it would work in the UK technically, but the rates would be so expensive they would be unaffordable. It's a common problem when going from one country's provider to a foreign country. Like going from Ireland to the UK. The EU sorted out that scam, and SIMs bought in one EU country will generally work OK in any other EU country. As you may know, the UK is no longer a member of the EU, so that regulation no longer applies in the UK. That's presumably why the OP wants to buy a local Irish SIM, rather than use a UK-bought SIM. And that's why I bought my Irish SIM in Dublin.

Usually, it is not necessary to show proof of where you live. Three.ie has a prepaid offer for €20 with unlimited data that will likely meet what you require. Make sure that the SIM card size fits with your MiFi device. Also, look for special offers in local shops when you arrive in Ireland.
