We have stayed at the above a couple of times i was wondering if you can park on there when the horse racing is on or is it full. Would you have to land days in advance to find a spot?

Get there realy early or very late theday or so before, and I don't see a problem

Yes you can no problem, as jim says it can get busy, but Ive stayed plenty times when racing is on. gates to the track will be closed quite often though.
I enjoy the real early walk round the track and the general "buzz" about the place .

the 1539 restaurant on course has closed for good now though to the public, just in case you were fancying a meal.

Last time I stopped in the Little Roddee, I completed the Chester Marathon.

I was sat in a bar after the race boring some random guy on my fantastic time only for him to inform me after some time that he won the race and showed me his medal. I had to laugh. He finished nearly 2 hours ahead of me!

We're sat in the carpark at the moment having spent last night here as well. I'm not sure about exactly where you are supposed to park? We stopped in a single bay with our front wheels on a pavement type triangular bit - mainly so we didn't take up more than a single space, we were told by 2 separate people ( in mohos) that we might get fined - so we moved. Last night we saw a few in the coach/lorries only bays & tonight there are more so I would say there would probably be loads of room depending on which bays you are allowed to use! The fines apparently depend on the person who comes round!
We are wedged a in a spot round the edge (we are the grey one)

When I've stayed I've stayed in the large bays near the cafe in the corner, not the ones facing the castle but the ones that slope down to the bottom of the car park, but when we've checked people were all over the place. I've been told not to use the ones that face the castle as those are the ones the coaches etc use during the day.

I've stayed down nthe left of the cafe...also in the small spaces by the river and plenty times in the coach bays..especially the one farthest right as that slope is perfect for my nose down mh. :)

Must have been lucky in at least 60 stays

Exactly as Tombola says, never had a problem and used ramps.

We live 10 minutes walk from the car park, it’s good to see it being used by motor homes, one of the very few good things Chester council has done.
Most motor homes park along side the river, for some time new surface water drains were being laid in the city, big diameter underground drainage system with the outlet at the bottom of the car park into the river, this took away most of the parking by the river but is now all back in place.

We use the top button on the entrance gate, we are 8.2m long by 3.2 high so we pay for the right to use the coach bays. We must have used the car park over 500 times.
Never been fined or cautioned.
However if you use the bottom ticket button use the bays next to the river or ensure you only use up one car park bay.
Hope that helps.

you know, you've just reminded me, Ive never displayed my ticket, ! are you supposed to ? . I thought with it being barrier entrance there was no need?

We never display.
Maybe it's because we have the big bus mirrors we have never been checked, or I'm assuming they have access to the ticket information from the number plate ?

We stayed there when the racing was on had a lovely view from the bridge .

Do you pay more if you push the coach button? Its a great stop for the weekend.
The new food hall in the market is good.

Yes, I can't remember how much though. It automatically gives us a bus ticket. I think it may be an extra £10 for a 24 hour period. Still only £5 after 6pm overnight though.

yes I think its a tenner. but you can also pay a tenner on the normal machine that allows coming and going throughout the day for smaller tarrif vehicles.
but if you arrive after 6 and leave before 7am its a fiver even for coaches.

Just a word of warning - someone parked their motorhome in a normal space & overhung with their wheels ove the line on a "pavement" bit & it looks like they got a ticket this morning ☹️
There must have been 25 mohos here last night - mostly in the coach bays but I'm not sure if they got tickets.

It good money when you think about it..I've stayed loooads of times and even depths of winter there's 10 minimum.
I'd say average 30 per night. Over a year they are taking 80k just in overnight MHS.
Take away a portion of the site maintenance and barrier costs etc it's good money.

Not my picture (taken from S4S) but shows prices & times etc
Just cost us £29 for 3 nights 👍 great price considering location.

Wouldn't it be great if those who use this car park contacted the council to express their appreciation for the facility... Whilst mentioning how much they've spent in the city.

Yes, I know, I love in "Cloud Cuckoo" land

I did exactly that last time I was there. Never got an answer of course.

It certainly would. We couldn't find any info on who owned car park, if it is the council (& they emptied the bins whilst we were there) it would be great to find the name of the person responsible for arranging it & thank them directly.
I would like to know definitively if we are allowed to park in the large bays as it say coach & lorries only.
Either way it's a great spot & we'll go there again!
