Our 2 month trip to Spain which we are 2 weeks into has been a series of unfortunate events none of which are really serious enough to send us back home but are unsettling enough to disturb our peace of mind. I have another thread about van being flooded, hurricane winds, wheels getting tangled in wire fence and windscreen crack but this one is about my new lithium battery. It seems its one thing after another.
Anyway I woke up this morning and noticed that my Hymer panel which has the switch for 12v and other stuff was dead when it should be lit up with time etc. On my victron app my battery showed 65% but my 12v system was dead. Not only that but the things such as my diesel heater and fridge both of which should be on even when 12v is switched off were dead.
Could it be that the low temperature caused this.
Once I connected up to the hookup it all came back to life but then went off again after a few minutes. It's now working OK
Cheers Martin

I doubt that the low temperature had any impact on your LiFePO4 battery but what sort of temperature are you talking about?

Generally the batteries will allow discharging down to -20c or so, it's the charging that is disabled at close to 0c. Something else maybe?

Must have been around 2 or 3 centigrade.

That sort of temperature shouldn’t be a problem.

Do you have any sort of battery protect device fitted? Perhaps the diesel heater dropped the voltage too low and the battery protect device operated (or even the BMS on your LiFePO4) on low voltage.

Our Fogstar doesn't switch off if cold. It won't charge until it's built in heaters have heated it to around 6 deg

Do you have an App for your battery, or a meter? A shunt can get out of line with the true battery status for various reasons....

Is your lithium battery outside of the main body and likely subject to lower external temperatures or is it inboard?

It was 3C in SE Spain for me this morning. Checking the batteries they show 7 & 8C respectively. Yes they cool overnight, but won’t get to ambient in one evening/night.

Even at 7/8 C this will not be any problem and will work perfectly normally much colder. They don’t like being charged when near to 2C battery temp; you’d have been way over this temp!
