I'm Looking at replacing my Gel Battery for Lithium, but I've been looking at batteries from different Manufacturers and Can't understand why there can be such as massive difference in price for a 100ah battery, can somebody please recommend a decent battery without breaking the bank, Brands I've looked at are Renogy / Fogstar / ks energy / ecotree , also will the standard sargent charger be ok, Ive tried looking on these forums about these brands, but I just can't find any answers, I'm probably looking in the wrong place, any advice would be appreciated,

Thanks Andy

If you ring up Oaktree motorhomes (aka ecotree) they will talk through with you what is in your van and what your options are. I did that with them, I explained I was trying to get my head round what I needed to do and cost and they were really helpful. No pressure to purchase from them - although in fact we did. I think now they have so much work they are using another company Blue ..... ? (cant remember the name) to help them.

What version is you Sargent? If you can find the manual it should show you what charging profile it gives. Old ones like mine can’t give out a high enough voltage for lithium.

The chargers a Sargent PX300 can't see charging profile, just gonna do a bit of googling see if I can find out.

From what I can make out looks like I've got to check with manufacturer

Look at the sustained output amps, particularly if you're thinking of using an inverter. Make sure it has a low temperature cutoff. Those are the only two that I think are critical...

Other things are nice to have.

Some have internal heaters, so if you do provide charge when it's below freezing, it'll warm the battery first before charging.

A Bluetooth apps are good for telling you the state of the battery as you can't rely on voltage with lithium chemistry as the slope is so flat.

Check the size will fit where you want to put it.

After that, it's woolly things like the charge cycle lifetime and the warranty. The technology is still new, companies don't always last and warranties can be easy to wriggle out of.

Not really looking at using an inverter just yet, to be honest I Only really use battery when off grid for the occasional weekend, to keep compressor fridge running and obviously lights TV, there's a small 40w solar panel to keep things ticking over,

they all say that 😂
im not sure if the boost (14.4v) and float (13.6v) voltages will be enough for lithium but it doesn’t like living at 100% anyway. Someone with better knowledge will be along I’m sure. That charger may be ok.

Charge voltage for lithium is generally lower than any lead acid batteries. Many will not accept a charge over 14.4V
I cut the charge to my lithiums when the voltage hits 14.19V.
