Hi All,

Has anyone fitted a maxxfan deluxe to replace the centre skylight above the kitchen area on a 2022 Bailey 79-4i (or T). Just wondering if there is wiring already in place or if not what the best route and tie in point would be.

Also, away to install two Sterling 120AH Lithium batteries. I have a Votronic 350 mppt solar charger and a B2B fitted. Is the standard mains charger suitable as it is, does it have a Lithium setting or does it need to be changed out for a Lithium compatible one. I have been informed that the base Peugeot does not have a smart alternator.
Thanks in advance.

If the solar controller you replaced was a Truma pwm, it most likely non smart alternator. But if it was a Truma mppt it will be smart alternator.

The BCA pdu fitted to non smart alternator Baileys does not have a Lithium setting - Apuljack do a replacement charger/psu, but it's expensive - I have a 2018 Bailey and will probably add a Victron charger and a vanbitz battery master. Disconnecting the built in charger, but leaving the psu connected.

Ref the Truma controller comment ... Is this based on a product change that coincided with a vehicle base change? Or are you saying PWM controllers are not compatible with Smart Alternators?

Thank you for the reply, The solar charger wasn't an MPPT, the Votronic I now have fitted is MPPT so I don't have a smart alternator. I have a Vanbitz battery master, fitted when getting my growler installed. Vanbitz have recommended a Victron charger for when I install my (now purchased) Lithium batteries. I have looked on the Applejack site and it looks like they are advertising a Lithium charger model number CHR-APU-007-NE at only £175.00 or the CHR-APU-008-NE at £198.00 if I need the extra yellow wire connection which are direct replacements for the standard charger. Could I use this instead of a new Victron charger and slot it straight in using the current PSU. Am I missing something here or is it that easy? Thanks again.

If your chassis is 2022 are you sure your alternator isn’t smart?

+ vat unfortunately. Good product and ultra easy to fit. Just unplug and replug.

Hi Eddie, I am sure that when it was with you in the summer to get the Growler, B2B and tracker installed, your guys confirmed that it wasn't a smart alternator, maybe they could just confirm that?

Yes. Bailey changed to Truma mppt solar controller when ALL Peugeot cabs came with smart alternators, I believe they also started fitting B2B chargers as well.

If its 2022 registered and not a smart alternator it will have been built on a very old chassis.

If its Euro 6d it will have a smart alternator.
Hi Lenny,
Thanks for that, I am a bit confused now, I am sure Eddies guys at Vanbitz said it didn't have a smart alternator. Could you please confirm if reading this Eddie. What are the implications if it has a smart alternator?

RE: Apuljack yes, it's a straight drop in replacement - but it may affect your warranty, there again most of your upgrades might have this effect - I will add a suitable Victron charger wired direct to the leisure battery and use a Vanbitz battery master to charge the cab battery (disconnecting the charger side of the pdu installed unit). This is purely on cost as a Victron charger will be cheaper.

It all becomes clear lol

Having checked the installation notes you were booked in for a Battery to Battery charger to be installed.

Being a decent trustworthy company we advised you that you didn't need the B2B as you HAVE a smart alternator so Bailey have already fitted a B2B

Thanks for clearing that up Eddie, :), Based on your feedback, that is why I used you this year and also left positive feedback. Credit where credit is due, you can only build and maintain a good reputation with good, quality honest work. I will contact Ash again to discuss what I require now, could you give him an update as to where I am now and what I require based on my update to you. He could then update my quote and I can get booked in.

Are all B2B chargers LiFePO4 compatible ? or should that be checked before fitting LiFePO4 batteries.

Bailey are never forthcoming with info like that, so visual inspection may be the only way to confirm what make and model is fitted (on the Bailey 69-2 2023 it's in the electric box at the bottom of the wardrobe, accessible via flap by the entrance step, on the cab bulkhead, I think)
