Ah well,shite happens!
Good luck with sorting it out.
I’m sure you’ll find a new baby to bond with soon. Just make sure there’s enough pie storage space.(y):D

Bit of a bummer JJ, but as already said or similar , worse things happen at sea.
Hope you’re sorted soon ?

cost and hassle of coming back to the UK and taking the test vs cost and hassle of selling old van , buying a new van and or a replacement car...????

Unless you are dying on your feet and can't see past the bonnet.. what's the problem besides stubbornness. :D

Thank you so much Mr HandyAndy for your concern.

I don't think you quite understand my situation but thank you for trying to help...

I'm pretty sure I won't even go back to Blighty when I am dead!

UPDATE so far...

One line on Classic Hymers brought many responses...

Now in contact with 2 folk who seem pretty serious but... SO FAR my preferred client would be a guy who wants my Hymer and is offering a Transit Ambulance in part exchange. We talk more tomorrow.

The second possible client didn't even get put off when I sent a couple of photos of the mess inside! He promised not to show them to his wife...

He has a workshop and is well equipped and eager to do any interior repairs as necessary.

I didn't actually expect such rapid AND enthusiastic responses... definitely not quite ready to take final decisions without consulting my people... lol

Looks like bumper, rear quarter and maybe wheel or light

Seems reasonable to me ?
Not at Portugese/spanish prices. Here a complete rear quarter replaced ,sprayed & change from 300€ at a proper body shop. Friend just had one fitted.

he is a Portugese resident. Can't do it anywhere else.

Think carefully, Portuguese registered is the way to go. If that ambulance is not, turn away.

Absolutely agree...

Everything in my life needs to be Portuguese... except maybe my Estate Manager and my Princess of course...

On the subject of lifestyle change , be sure to keep your eyesight test updated, a neighbour pulled in to let an Ambulance pass , a few days later knock at the door, Percy Plod ,”Hello Sir do you recall pulling in to let an Ambulance pas a few days ago? “ “I do “ he replied. “Can you read the registration plate of the Car over there ? “ He failed, was immediately issued with a £1000.00 Fixed Penalty, an had his Licence seized.
I do not know any more of the facts to this case but it is true and I would suspect that he hindered the progress of the emergency unit.
So keep the mince pies in order , and watch out for those blues and twos ‘n

Always have tended to take chances and sometimes, they go wrong... very, very wrong!

Medical issues led to me to avoid taking a test at 70 so my licence no longer covered my Hymer 660S.

I looked at my options, made a choice and took a chance!

Yesterday, after two years of trouble free motoring, 5 seconds of distraction led to me touching the side of a car in my local supermarket carpark.

Totally my fault.

End result... I can no longer drive my beloved Hymer on the road (although, of course, I can still live in it!).

Still rather depressed over the matter and trying to work out my (many) options...

Right now one of them would be to trade in the Hymer for a smaller, Portuguese registered, van....

Just look at the "incident" that led to my downfall...

Again... totally my fault but my current lifestyle has been changed in seconds!

Oh well... serves me right hey?

(Update... his repairs will cost me €700. Hymer totally unmarked)

Could you not have paid for his repairs yourself and not told the insurance? I’m assuming it’s the insurance that have told you you cannot drive again? Would another insurance company cover you? Hang in, I’ve reread it, are you saying that you have been driving with no licence and therefore no insurance for the last 2 years? Or have I completely misunderstood. Either way you have my sympathies. I would be devastated

I hope it all gets sorted easily and cheaply and the 'penalties' for you aren't too severe but I have to say that I'm extremely surprised that you 'risked' it and assume this wasn't the first time seeing as you've posted details of the lovely places you visit in your MH. You've been lucky but unfortunately as you've found it doesn't last forever.

Forgive me for being a Devil’s Advocate here, but anyone driving without a Licence and Insurance deserves to be charged / fined as appropriate (and I’m not saying JJ has - I’ve no info to that effect).

All of us are already paying way too much insurance premiums due to wholly inconsiderate people who think they can ignore the law and resign all responsibility to others who have to pay
And I’ve seen many an elderly driver that was the opposite of being a competent driver due to reaction times and extremely bad eyesight - posing a significant risk to all road and pavement users. Thus I fully understand and respect the need for elderly to be evaluated as their senses deteriorate. If they have all the required faculties, then no problem, they will pass the evaluation.

Likewise, ANY driver who is not competent should be banned from driving.

Of course I will in the future be re-evaluated, just as I will if I cause a significant incident on the roads today. If I fail, then I will just need to re-sit, pass, or deal with it.

Never heard of a £1,000 FPN but have heard of an FPN which if you decide to fight it has a maximum fine of £1,000
