According to the government website.
It is every 3 years. It sounds like an error to me.

I’m not sure, but I thought if you were 70+ your licence for a standard vehicle renewed every 3 years, but if there was a C1 element you had to have some medical paperwork to cover that part. Like I say I’m not 10O% sure.

Are you sure there are no provisional categories on your licence - this changes application requirements?

Every 3 years at 70 Unless you want C1 then annually.
Your health/eyesight can change in a year never mind every three.

Slight error in the above post.
Age 70 and over with C1 entitlement last for 3 years. After which you’ll need to have medical.

Edit: another medical

My error, I was on a page for C1/D1 and followed a link about being 70, and I didnt notice that it had dropped the C1/D1 part.

I do know here in france after 70 you have to renew every year, or at least the medical, so maybe the same in the UK.

Having just submitted my forms etc. to DVLA, I thought I'd share my review about the medical just posted on Trustpilot....

"It was a 15 minute appointment and apart from blood pressure and a (questionable) eye test (see below), the rest of the time was ticking all the boxes, mostly without asking me!
But then again, what can you expect in such a short time and with dozens of boxes to fill?
The eye test was in poor light and the doctor should surely know the implications of having had cataract replacement surgery. I can read a licence plate at over 40 mtrs for goodness sake.
So, job done, but if DVLA ever get wind of this I'd imagine there will be some fundamental reaction. I only need this to retain my C1 at over-70 and am in pretty good shape, but goodness knows how many Taxi and HGV drivers are on the road with unrecorded medical issues."

Well I hope DVLA are not reading this!

Been like it for years, DVLA must know. I wrote this on Fun about my experience in 2018
I used Drs on Wheels shorty before banned by DVLA. The lady inside transit van had never heard of my heart condition. I said “Aren’t you a Doctor”?
No, she replied, “but it’s OK as I have a stamp” and with that, she got out her ink pad and stamp and there was the Doctors name and signature.
There was a queue of HGV drivers waiting as it was on the Avonmouth Industrial Estate.
It was not before time that they were banned.

The form is just the same regardless of who fills it in. It is produced by DVLA so they are not in the dark. What is more surprising for me is the fee charged by your own GP for doing exactly the same job.
