Is it new enough to also charge from USB C? I've got a couple of laptops that came with barrel connector chargers, but will quite happily charge on the USB C port with the little lighting symbol.

Can you charge via USB port? As above some people type too fast!

What's the output volts on the mains AC charger ?
It may require more than the 5v supplied by a USB ?

No adaptor available for USB either ,, laptop is 2014 in perfect nick upgraded RAM, windows, etc

You may need an adapter to up the volts from 12 to maybe 19v.
They are available on amazon

USB C PD can provide a range of voltages depending on demand. I've got a USB C PD adapter wired in to the 12v of the van. It'll supply up to 30 watts at 12v to my 15" laptop. Which is enough to slowly charge it even when I'm using it.

A 2014 Levano won't have a USB C port.
2014 Laptop you could go on Antiques Road Show with that.

My 2014 Ideapad doesn't have USB C ports however after installing Linux on it it's nigh on as good as the Windows 11 lappie that replaced it!
To the OP have you checked the output from your cable with a multimeter to see what it is?
I had no problem getting an additional power supply, albeit 230v, to leave in the motorhome.

Sounds like Lenova may have done an Apple and created a socket/plug exclusive to Lenova? I know Dell do the same. Why not try looking for the whole cable/charger on eBay, chop of the plug with a reasonable length of cable and make a cable up with a 12v plug from Halfords? I've just done one for a IPTV player I have that had a non-standard 12v charging point.

i may have to get a cheap laptop with USB c , but I hate being forced to do things when my existing gear works fine ,, all this constant windows and phone upgrading every few years is a total scam when old machines still work fine

Its not the most power efficient option but could you not get a low wattage inverter and charge it via your 240v charger rather than having to get a new laptop?

that's fine if you are not connecting to the web and using it for online shopping and banking.

outdated operating systems and software are more vulnerable to security risks and may lack the latest updates and patches..

Are you running Windows 11 with latest security updates ?

If not, I don't think it's worth the risk, and at ten years old that laptop has done well, and owns you nothing..

If looking, I saw that Curry's have refurbished laptops from around £150 ..

It may be simular to HP in that they (on 2 models ive had) use a 3 connection device to establish if you are using a genuine HP power supply. Pissed me off no end at least the new one has a usb C socket but as yet haven't got a suitable Mains to usb C charger.

To me, this option is a no brainer.
It is also then iin place for anything else 240 volt you might have.
Pure Sine wave 300 watt is all you need.

So, as I understand it, the OP has a 240v power supply, which works fine. That means he has at least one of the correct dc charging plugs.
Therefore, all he needs to do is cut the wire from mains charger unit and cig lighter power supply unit. Then fit a two pin connector to each power supply, with corresponding connector to dc plug wire. Just make sure to use a connector such as XT60 to ensure correct polarity each time it is connected.

Not a laptop but my main computer is based around an i5-4430 which was launched in Q2 2013. 16GB of RAM, SSD, dedicated graphics card running 3x1080p monitors and I'm the limiting factor. If the caps on the motherboard don't blow I reckon I've another year or 3 left in it. That said USB C is great for laptops being able to charge from pretty much anything

If you are brave you could cut the cable going to the plug on your main charger and with some connectors attach it to a DC charger of the right voltage. Something like these and use shrink wrap to cover the joints. The yellow ones are better I think.
