Mr Gina M has got some vouchers for Halfords so that is where he is going to get our new leisure battery for the van. Can anyone please point us in the right direction as which one on their website is the best to go for. Thanks.

Get the measurements from your old battery including the terminal positions so you can find a new one that will fit. I recommend a gel, more expensive but better if you charger and solar controller can be set to the right profile. Otherwise a flooded lead acid, I would not recommend an AGM one.

They require a higher charge voltage then Lead Acid or Gel, and charging them at lower voltages can shorten their lives, I believe.
Interesting, but erroneous me thinks.

There are a few users on Fun that really dislike AGM as leisure batteries with real short life results.
HLB700 is a fairly good battery for the money from Halfords but then I can tell you they were £88 before lockdown with a trade card discount..... Now over £160?

Well I have 2x 95ah AGM in the van, it's still new, as you all know so I have no idea how long they will last. For now they work fine and after a short while in the Canarian sun, they're at 100% even after 3 hours with the Bergstrom air conditioner functioning.

Spend the vouchers on something else at Halfords and get yourself one or two of these, excellent batteries and recommend on here many many times… providing you have a gel setting on your charger.

Interesting that we were told that the original battery which we have had in the van from new was one of the cheapest you can get (no surprises there) yet it lasted for 7 years since the day we bought it (2017)

Absorbtion voltages for AGM batteries are between 14.4 and 15 volts, Gel batteries are between 14.1 and 14.4 volts. You need a charger that can charge at the correct voltages to get the best out of AGM.

Ok, well I understand I have the correct setup for these batteries and the system is ready for lithium too, which is probably the way I will go when the AGM batteries are ready for changing. Meanwhile, happy camping as they say 😀

Fortunately you live in an area where they will always get a good charge from your solar, they should last you a while.
The ones I had previously lasted around 7 years… I have gels now..😎

By the way I love your posts and pictures on your travels, keep it up…👍🏼

Thanks Garry, Mr Gina M been online to tayna.co.uk got a price for it, printed it off then took the price to Halfords and they price matched it and he also got them to knock off the delivery charge. He got it for £192.69 (a saving of £35.30) He makes me laugh he was getting it for nowt with his vouchers anyway:giggle:
