So I am wondering do people leave there van permanently plugged into the mains when its parked at home?

I have mine plugged in at the moment (Swift Escape 696 2015) but when collecting the sales guy said to just put it one once a week or so for a top up. Will it deteriorate the battery or are they smart enough now to do no damage? My Harley is permanently plugged in to a battery tender and has no issues. I mean if your on a site for a week or more its plugged in permanent.

Also Gas.
When we rented a van in the summer the owner of it (large rental place) said don't worry about the gas bottle. Just leave it on.
The sales place said switch it off before driving.
Now my thought it that it should be off for the reason of if you have a bad crash you have the risk or rupturing the gas connections in the van and then a potential kaboom. Otherwise it should be fine to leave on.

What do others do?

if you see the 8th and last pic it shows the bit im on about, and the door at the end, will be changed to a wire gate, so no chance of him suffocating!, more likely i will gas him after one of our home grown curries:sick:as he will be underneath us, poor furbert!

Are you asking if you can run the heating on mains electric without any water in the boiler.
Yes you can run it on electric or gas without water in the boiler.

EHU if on a site otherwise let solar take care of it. Gas off (providing I remember) which I normally do. Or pull in down the road when I do. Fridge on 12v when travelling, it’s a three way fridge so will go to 12v when engine starts, it would switch to gas after 15 mins when engine stops (if gas was on).

Mains EHU at home always on, even with a solar panel it helps reduce the charge from the mains. Gas off while driving.

Wouldn’t you have to leave the Sargent charger on all the time? That can’t be good?

We leave EHU connected all the time, supposedly smart charger

Regarding gas, never left on whilst travelling. We do have a collision detector fitted, but the manufacturer (Chausson) states that gas must be off whilst travelling, so having read the manual (and seen the sticker telling me so) I figure that they're being serious. I think the reason is more connected with the fridge, and concern that the pilot burner could be blown out

Heating is diesel, and is designed to be used whilst mobile. Water is gas/mains (elec) so that goes on when stationary or on EHU
Totally agree. Would worry about pilot light blowing out whilst driving - plus not entirely sure about "collision detector". If worried about the fridge on the move I have noticed that it will run on electric whilst driving if the master switch is on, but did deplete the battery a little in 300miles of driving i.e. the alternator couldn't keep up; it was a cloudy day though so perhaps in sunny Spain it would all be alright?

I imagine that if you have an accident and you have left the gas on which then causes a fire your insurance would be void ?

Probably.
We don't have an automatic deceleration valve so have always turned the gas off on the bottle.

As Lenny says, Sandra, yes you're fine to do this.

The Green Buttons on the Hoses are the Safety buttons, our van is ok to have the heating on while traveling.
