We have a stubborn water leak coming into our above fridge cupboard where all the satellite cables enter . I have resealed the outside 3 times now but in this heavy rain still getting some through . Our cables are ducted through surface boxes on the interior and interior - all uncovered and cleaned out . I’ve attached a photo of the run and cable entrance point . Any ideas or alternative solutions welcome .

Looks identical to my Knaus 😬

I had a similar leak that I took 2 goes at it to fix.

If you've done it 3 times I'd say you're looking in the wrong area.

As Einstein said, "The definition of insanity is repeating the same experiment over and over and expecting a different result" 🤔

Not a criticism, just light hearted humour 😂

The roof of my Knaus slopes forward so that water ponds on the roof at the front.

They didn't provide any drainage for this design and I was getting a leak inside through the kitchen cupboard over the basin gas burner area.

I eventually stopped it by resealing the long cover strip that runs down the length of the roof that hangs over the side.

The silicon sealant was old and weathered, but still looked Ok, but somewhere there must have been an entry point for water.

The thing to remember about water, it doesn't always drip where it enters, but runs along along a surface building up until it's weight overcomes gravity 😮

Finding a roofing leak in a new airport building, or similar structure, can be a nightmare with the drip, drip, drip occuring 50 or 100 metres away from where it enters and runs along a steel beam 😬🤬

We then put dyes in the water spray to ensure we're chasing the right leak as there can be more than one source 😉

I used that thin silver aluminium foil with the peel off adhesive cover that's promoted for sealing leaks.

That stopped it.

But then I still found some slight damp entering so I resealed the side strip with silicon and that stopped all water entry.

I'm postulating that while the top was sealed, while driving in heavy rain wind pressure was driving some water up the sidewall and under the protective edging.

Resealing the sidewall to roof edging strip completely stopped all traces of water entry and damp 👍

The roofing tie down rail is an ongoing problem where it attaches at the front just behind the driving cab and needs attention every couple of years, another example of poor design 🤬

Hope this helps.

Hi,

your roof photo looks very similar to my Knaus.

I had a leak over the kitchen basin about 1.5 metres from your photo

Initially I thought the leak was from the roof entry point for the TV cables and resealed that area to no avail.

To quite Einstein,

"The definition of insanity is to keep repeating the same experiment and expecting a different result",

just a bit of humour 😂

If you've fixed it 3 times I'd suggest you're looking in the wrong spot.

I eventually solved my leak by sealing the rail that runs the full length of the roof.

The silicon jointing didn't look too bad, but somewhere along the length water must have been getting in and running along a roof beam accumulating more water until weight overcame gravity and dropped onto the ceiling panel above the kitchen basin

The thing to know is that water can travel a long way along a beam before it drops due to gravity.

I've had lots of instances of chasing down roofing water leaks in newly built airports etc., and the water can drop 50 to 100 metres away from where it enters the building.

We othen have to use dyes in the spray water to be sure we are chasing the correct leak in cases of multiple roof leaks

I used that readily available aluminium sticky tape for sealing roofing joints as a first fix. (See photo)

That stopped the leak but I found that I was still occasionally getting damp in the area from wind driven rain water in a heavy storm.

The water was being driven up the side wall and finding an entry point somewhere along the sidewall top rail.

I resealed the sidewalls top rail with silicon which solved the problem.

Having stopped the water leak, I later on removed the aluminium foil waterproof tape and did a proper resealing with silicon, with no further water leaks.

See the photo of the stuff I used for the first fix 😂

I used the Chausson factory fitted grey cable inlet box on the roof to run my solar cables to the controller. The cables run through cable glands and I've not had a problem in 5 years with water ingress.

Looking at your picture, is there an issue with the Chausson grey inlet box as it appears to have white sealant applied. Maybe it would be worth removing the top and checking the integrity of the rubber gasket. Also to give a better seal, replace the self tapping screws with the next size up stainless self tappers.

Here is an alternative thought; I had a leak through the aerial itself ! In heavy rain the aerial filled up with water and slowly leaked above a cupboard and dripped into the van three feet away from the aerial. All the sealants were fine. In your case it maybe worth having a look at the satellite dish?.

I think I’ll reveal the whole roof and all fittings
