Where there is a land Owner involved, no one can Wild Camp now in England without the Land Owner's permission, the Dartmoor case result seems strange to me with all that animal dropped waste everywhere!
I admit that it won't affect us as we don' wild camp.

It's a shame, but I don't disagree at all with the Dartmoor landowner who no longer wants to clean up the disgusting filth and litter left by inadequate and selfish individuals on his land.
Animal waste is in the main plant based and widely/thinly spread over the moor and they don't scorch the land or leave behind nappies, beer cans and glass bottles etc.

Exactly the reason why Loch Lomond and The Trossachs are now a no go area UNLESS you purchase one of the very few permits to allow you to stay at one of the very few areas where it is permitted.

Can somebody give a link to the Law Report of the Dartmoor case please.

I no longer have access from here.

I want to analyse it for its extension to other places.

Also if it is at a Court of First Instance it is not binding on other Courts.

As I understand it, Dartmoor is the only place in England where you could legally wild camp. There have always been restrictions in that you must carry all your kit and not be visible from a road. Wild camping in motorhomes, cars and caravans has never been allowed and the Rangers have the powers to move you on and direct you to campsites.

I suspect that it's not so much the relatively few wild campers or motorhomers who are the cause of the problem but some of the many thousands of day visitors having picnics and BBQs.

Thanks Ingwe

It seems quite clear that the matter being dealt with was the right or otherwise for those people who have access to Dartmoor on foot or horseback to camp in tents.

The case did not consider vehicular access and camping therein as vehicles are not included in the right of access, so therefore they cannot camp and never were able to do so.

I cannot see that the case affects motorhomers at all.
