Lake District

Ambleside has an aire by the main car park for £25 pn nice walking from there and as it is top of the lake boat to Windermere regularly
It does and it’s great, but currently shut as United Utilities are using it for a major project. :-(

The rugby club is still open I think.

The two pubs in Pooley bridge allow overnight in their car park if you have a drink or meal in the hotel, also if you’re a member of any the big clubs have a look for a CL or CS. There’s a lovely CL at Hawkshead and the campsite it’s self is ok, plus you can park in the school car park at Coniston as long as it’s not a school night and just leave a donation.

Hope you enjoyed Dumfries, where did you park up?

A night any idea if forum or discount code ?
Forget staying in the honeypots within the national park - like Keswick. It's where I was born and bred, but it's very busy and unless you like dogs, you will find that Keswick is overrun with dogs as it's advertised as "dog friendly"!
Find a CL, if you can get one that is open out of season. Better still go to Maryport Marina, which is half an hours drive west of Keswick and even closer to Cockermouth and the Western Fells area. At Maryport, which is on the coast, you will pay £25 for a hard standing pitch, inc EHU in the Marina area - on Friday night there were 16 vans on the site but it still looked to have lots of space. ( I was wild parking on the beach car park. The hills in the distance are in Scotland, just west of where Lorger lives!)
Check out Caldbeck Camp site. It is in a nice wee village in the Northern Fells, which has a pub, shop, cafés etc, but is not overrun with visitors.

Morning ,
West-land county parks , was nice & friendly .

A couple of years ago I enjoyed a stop at Coniston Park Coppice in mid-winter, but I see it's not open this year until mid-March. This seems to be a bit more common among club sites now...

Glebe road site and car park in Bowness on Windermere has already been mentioned but you can park outside the site and car park longways on actually on Glebe road for free this time of year. Its popular though so get there early.

Looked nice aswell .

Bowness on Windermere, C&CC site on glebe road, I thought it was expensive, car park next door £10 overnight parking.
Also free on street parking along Glebe Road, as you come out of C&CC site. About a dozen vans there last time I visited.

If you're a member of the CAMC then the CL on the Paterdale Estate by Ullswater is a lovely quiet spot walkable into the village for pubs and shops.

Excellent walking nearby including Aira Force and Helvellyn.
