For the past two years we have camped at the same site in Devon for a week during the school summer holidays with our kids, their partners and grandchildren - just the 19 of us!
We’d like to try somewhere different and have all agreed to look at the Lake District.

Has anyone any recommendations of sites we could consider, please? There will be 5 tents of varying sizes and us in the motor home. All the tents would like electricity if possible and we’d like to be together rather than the motor home having to park elsewhere.

Thanks!

Waterside house campsite on Ullswater about a mile from Pooley Bridge would be perfect. Large informal field. Park or pitch wherever you like. There are also more formal pitches with hook up and full facilities if you'd prefer it. It's right on the lakeside http://www.watersidefarm-campsite.co.uk/

Sykeside on brothers water is close enough to Patterdale and Glenridding and not to far from Windermere'lake. It's a good site and great for walks etc.

Good luck booking that site probs best to book now for 2025

The CCC site at Keswick with direct access onto the lake is great. Tents can be pitched within a few metres of the lake. (Albeit without electric) The town and all its attractions are an easy 10 minute walk
Second that!

The CCC site at Kendal is worth considering too, and also the new CCC site at Braithwaite village, near Keswick.

Oh, and The Quiet Site at Ullswater: https://thequietsite.co.uk/ (y)

None of us are members of any of the clubs and don’t want to join just for one holiday, thanks anyway.

having looked at availability on several websites I’m starting to realise this may not be far from the truth 😳

Consider going a little further north into Dumfries and Galloway for better availability??
We are mostly based in Pembrokeshire and Bristol and there are young children travelling - some of whom get travel sick - so that’s a bit too far. Good idea for when they’re older though.

Just to mention, I don't believe you need to be members to stay at those Camping and Caravanning Club sites.

I’m sat at at ParkFoot on Ullswater…..sounds like it does just what you want, with the tent/MH arrangement.

You can look on the map and pre-book the pitches, so you can stay together, space permitting obviously.

5 mins from Pooley Bridge.
Onsite pub/restaurant.
Onsite Takeaway
Large kids play areas.
2 mins to the Lake….boats and kayaks etc available to hire.
Bus and paddle steamer service available from Pooley Bridge.

First time I’ve seen a free to use dishwasher onsite too…..that’s a posh hands free sink for the less refined 😉😂

Pitches have EHU and tap…..some have their own wooden picnic / pub style benches, which would help the tenters.

When Parkfoot was first mentioned, I nearly jumped in and said "Just be aware that it's where Geordie campers go to fight on a Bank Holiday !" but I though things had maybe moved on, but in our local rag, I just saw this article !
Apologies to any genuine Geordies and I do realise that this sort of thing can happen anywhere and it's why we tend to avoid sites with a club ?
