Hi all, my motorhome is 3m high and I need ladders for cleaning the roof. It's parked in a storage facility so I need to clean it there (no room at home).
What ladders do any of you use that I can fold up and get into car that are not too expensive?
Thanks in advance
Anthony

My experience with telescopic ladders is you get what you pay for. Worth investing in medium to high quality. ✔️

Get something like a polystyrene block to put between your ladder and your van. It won't suffer if it gets wet and will protect your paintwork etc.
I use a pair off Crocs.. one on each ladder upright...
Much more useful than putting them on yer feet🤣

I use a four piece folding ladder which can also be made into a platform, it has outriggers for extra stability and small enough to fit into the boot of a car, it is solid and quite heavy around 30kg I also have foam pipe lagging strapped to it where it leans against the van to save the paintwork, it was bought from Lidl for about £60 a few years ago.

Not tried polystyrene, I use pipe lagging ✔️

Actually the safest thing to put on the top of the ladder to stop it marking your MH is pipe lagging covered with some anti slip cupboard lining as that will ensure it can't slide sideways, pipe lagging on its own can be slippery.

No ladders for me with all the metalwork in my fused heel after I fell off a ladder at building roof height (the roof broke). Big drama. Short fall, long story.

So it's scaffolding now, and great caution. But I am extremely sensitised to the risks now.

Can you climb up onto the roof through your skylight?

I have a multi purpose folding ladder which folds in half and half again. (Can use it as a platform as it came with two metal sheets that sit within the ladder strings of middle 2 sections). I have pipe lagging taped to one end on each top section of the strings so it doesn't mark the side/roof edge. My motorhome is over 3m high and the set I have sits 2 rounds above the roof side/edge.
I don't tend to take it with me on my travels but do store them in the motorhome garage whilst in storage as that's where I usually clean it and ensure the solar panels are kept clean.
Could have done with them last year in Spain when the hab door actuators failed and I was locked out. Had to borrow a set to climb through the roof vent!
If I was to buy again, I'd compare the collapsed size and overall weight against a telescopic ladder of equal overall height. As someone else has said, you get what you pay for with the telescopic ladders for quality, but how often will you be using them? If it was for work/trade, I'd buy the best as I'd expect to use them frequently, but if it's just for occasional use and cleaning every now and then, I wouldn't be too bothered as storage size and weight would be key.

Thanks for replying. No I couldn't get on roof really, I'm not in great health with osteoarthritis in spine, neck and other parts so I have to be really careful and scaffolding would be safer option but my car isn't very big to carry it to storage park. I can clean a bit of motorhome roof from inside through skylight i.e around tv ariel and around skylight.

The best ladder, that unfortunately does not fold up small enough to go in a vehicle (but could go on the roof) is and orchard ladder designed for fruit picking.
They are not cheap, but could be kept at your storage place (under the van ?)

Otherwise a decent telescopic ladder is OK
I use picture framing compressed foam to protect the van

Can you possibly talk storage owner to buy scaffolding to lend/rent out to members of yard....
Sure you won't be only one interested..
Sure someone will come up with a "what about insurance" if you do hurt yourself..

Thanks for replying. I'm not doing very well here as I've got a convertible car so no roof rack lol 🙄

To extend my ladder I made a removable top section with pipe lagging over the top 'rung'.

I've just been saying to my partner that I should ask the other motorhome owners to see if we could all chip in so we can all use scaffolding and leave it locked away on site 👍

If you're in a hotel room do you clean and vacuum the hotel room?

Then why clean your motorhome when out and about?
You're on holiday.

You'll be towing a caravan next, it's a favourite pastime with tuggers

I'm not cleaning it when I'm on holiday, I want to do it whilst it's in storage. I use mine at least once a month and go for days out once a week. Must admit I keep it washed and polished frequently. What is a tugger?

Telescopic ladder for me with a couple of lengths of spiral reinforced plastic hose that cip on the top section. Bit weighty to take with me so lives at home and also used when cleaning gutters/foliage trimming etc.
