La veloroute du cavalon

Thread created to add to the voie vert thread

The length of this disused railway line is 45 km or 28 English miles. It runs alongside the cavalon river or river bed at this time of year (late August) and us uphill from Cavaillon to st martin de castillon via Apt. There is a gradient of 190 metres over the 45 km which is about 1% to my quick maths.

We are not going from A to B but using the route as a conduit to get to the hilltop or perched villages of the Luberon. These can be found in the journals section "a month in provence"

We got on today at Les beaumettes and went uphill visiting Goult https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/goult.569/
We also visited bonnieux Lacoste and menerbes (links to follow) from this area

The route so far is all dedicated traffic free tarmac with dividing line. Picnic spots galore with cafes/bars and water points and toilets.

We came across some form of ancient structure which was only found recently. Unfortunately in French.

But Le pont julien. Built in 3BC. Get your head round that ! It is still used as part of the voie vert.

Will be adding to this thread as we go along it in dribs and drabs.

Today's journey on the voie verte was from pont julien to Apt, which was a tad uphill but optical illusions had us thinking it was downhill.
Not a long stretch but at least this had a nice cutting for a bit and some shade in the form of trees in parts. There was also a good picnic spot in Apt where there were 5 points to lock up your charger and abstract free electricity.

Having filled out Bosch batteries at the TO with free electricity we descended the hill to le veloroute du cavalon (voie vert thread) and into Apt, the capital of the Luberon with the river as dry here as every where else.

Nearly completed we only went from Cavaillon to Robion.

It is straight and flat and has bamboo shade with really good tarmac but occasional bumpy but from tree roots which are all marked up for repair.

Bargain Burger King meal on the way out with some railwayana on the roundabout it was really pleasant following on from some of the killer hills we have done diverting from the voie vert.

There was a great sort of village shopping area on the right just before Robion with painted outsides. There is a gate the was locked but suspect access available when shops are open and looked well worthy of a meander.

Robion gare had a good picnic area and the graffiti station was not off-putting.
