I know it’s not a motorhome issue.
But just enquiring if anyone on here has a property on La Torre.
We are going to look into buying a property next week and as we have a few on here with properties in Spain just wanted opinions.
I’ve spoken to a few British on there who are very happy having fully moved out to Spain.
The main reason for the resort is the other half loves the security of the place also walking around its just clean and tidy.
We are currently thinking of selling house in the uk using our son’s house for an address in uk and just doing reverse travel and coming back when it’s too hot in the summer.
Any thoughts? Pitfalls? As at the moment nothing is set in stone

I have a place on La Torre, Calle remora
Clean as a whistle, reasonable monthly fees,
Nice golf course and driving range with decent cafe bar attached
Sophias bistro is nice, the theres the usual Indian, Irish bar, English, Chinese restaurants etc.

I like it, security are very good and the pools and communal.areas are well looked after. 1 gig Internet included and a selection of shops

Its a little out of the way, compared say to mar menor where we had one, but I.prefer that. Roldan, a 10-15 min walk across the road has bars and restaurants, and a "park area" that holds concerts etc., and a small market a few days a week.

The hilton hotel on site used to give daily deals to.la torre residents which was very cheap for a day pass to use the indoor.pools and sauna spas, etc. But I haven't tried for a while

Best thing is...I am.off the plane and in my place in 20 mins

And why not....good Golf resort, if that's your type of property....for us not.... we've lived at various locations since leaving the UK 26 years ago.... BUT...Things change, we got older and needed to plan ahead... Security, Lock and leave style...services on site...no garden to tend too...
We now live on a GOLF Resort... don't play golf...but appreciate the time we spend there...we pay a community charge but what's included is peanuts...Fast internet and multinational cable TV..Security, communal swimming pools, rubbish collection, all communal areas cleaned twice weekly....supermarkets, numerous bars and restaurants on site, Solicitor, hairdressers...and lots more...and to top it all off, a great guy who's President...🤔🇪🇦

Are you going for residency, or have you got EU passport, or just staying the 90 days?

Sounds good.
The golf is nice but it’s not something I will do although the kids play so will get to see them. I also want to keep the van and they said no problem parking
I have 5 properties to look at on Wednesday.

I park my van as long as I like, just give them the numbers and they are fine.

Good luck, any questions just ask.

I’m awaiting my EU passport so won’t be doing anything until that is through but still thinking about keeping a link to UK
We still hold UK Citizenship and are Spanish Permanent Residents....if we chose to return to the UK, we can do (God forbid) for up to 5 years, just a few formalities to allow this...
However we can come and go as we please to the UK...but we choose not to do so..

Remember you can't keep a UK van abroad indefinitely.
It needs to be taxed and MoT'ed and to do that it has to be in the UK.

I seem to remember the Spanish have rules about vehicles staying over 180 days, just like people rules.
However the Vehicle rules are lot easier to enforce.

Yes. If I keep a uk address van will be registered there. I’ll insure and tax from there
I believe there are tax implications after 180 days as well but as I will only be driving in through France I was thinking I will be in the same situation as the German and Dutch travelling through Europe no borders no counting

There are rules though for the rest of the EU nationals, from memory they cannot stay legally longer than 90 days without registering with the authorities, it used to be 180 I think . I know they generally don’t do that but that doesn’t make them legally there. I wouldn’t like to think what may happen if something went wrong and they were outside the legalities. Being an EU citizen does not enable you to reside anywhere in the EU without following the rules that apply.

I think to keep UK licence legally etc you must be resident in the UK and I think this may also apply to many other aspects of life we take for granted, I know again many flout these rules. I know our son was not legally entitled to keep his UK licence when he went to live in the Caribbean and in fact had to hand it over to exchange for the Cayman one.

Having just sold a property after 20 years
of ownership ( finally) make sure all the documentation on the house is finished
(Signed off ) community fees are paid up!
Electricity and Suma ( Property Tax) also 👍 if you have more questions PM me

I believe keeping a home address in the uk that we actually enroll on the electoral register and change addresses to should cover this.

Thanks for the advice.
I’m hoping that we are going for the safe route by going on an established urbanisation and recommended sales agent

I have the name of good Spanish solicitors if you need them.
They handled the lot for me,
Your agent will probably.recommend one though (possibly the same one)

Keep some UK Property even if it has to be a small flat. When working I saw too many who left England for Spain Scotland France etc. When in their late 70’s or 80’s the ageing process and much more often drove them back to England.
Sadly they often found selling very slow (sometimes worse than England - really) and ended up in a shoe box.
I appreciate that advice assumes fair capital resources but the advice is sound!

I’m not sure this is actually legally correct Fragle. To be entitled to certain things, like driving licence & NHS access etc I’m pretty sure you need to be resident, not just have an address you use such as family member.

My memory is a little rusty and the rules may have changed a lot since we left UK for Spain in 2010-2012. We still owned a house here but we’re not UK resident. I know some of the rules then were broken by us and many others in lots of aspects and also by other EU citizens and the rules also changed whilst we were there.

Best to make sure of what the legal side is and at least then you can make an informed decision if you find, like we did, that we were not fully compliant and what the implications may be.

I wish you well. I know the area well and think you will enjoy it, we chose Murcia, and Los Alcazares, after about 15 years of searching for the right place to try living there. We had friends in La Torre area too. Still miss the weather and our Spanish friends.

La Torre, Calle remora

We purchased a house in Spain 10 years ago. A private villa, not on a golf resort. So I cant't comment as to what its like to live on one.

I mentioned recently about two different lawyers and friends in Spain who gave us the wrong advice regarding becoming resident in Spain (non tax domicile). Whilst still residing and working in the UK.

As a result, we lost the chance to obtain that before and during the WA.

The problem for us is, we want to move to Spain and become tax resident there. However, the NLV clause of not being absent from Spain for no more than 10 months in total over 5 years. Makes this unworkable for us.

I would imagine this could be an issue for many people. I spoke to an older couple the other day. They have just completed their first year as NLV residents. They had been to the UK to visit their son for 2 weeks. They said the 6 month (ten months max) will not effect them as they only have one son. They dont intend to be out of Spain for any long periods.

Another older couple I spoke with who had Pre-Brexit Resdency, had not left Spain for 8 years. So it depends on each persons requirements.

Annoyingly, if we were buying our house in Spain now, we would be able to apply for a GOLDEN Visa (supposed to end this year). You only have to be in Spain 1 day per year and are free to travel through Schengen countries.

I guess you are okay visiting the other 29 Schengen countries. But as soon as you leave Spain or any other of the European countries. The clock will start ticking.

I assume that if you live in Spain and exit Schengen via France, your exit is recorded on your TIE/Passport somehow.

You also have to bear in mind, you may not be accepted for NLV application.

Also, be mindful. If you move to Spain as a tax resident. If you sell your home in the UK the same Spanish tax year you become resident in Spain, you could be liable for capital gains tax.

So, we are stuck in Limbo. We want to be in Spain, 6-9 months of the year, but cant.

Thanks that’s very helpful of you and as we progress I’ll keep you in mind (y)

To be fair it is one of our options and as we are looking for an apartment in Spain on a golf course it will probably be passed on down to the kids who both play. I don’t 🤣
I think the other half will say small place in uk same in Spain and motorhome between the two is the final choice (y)

You are of course correct. We will need to look into this further along as this is the first step. We will see some properties for the first time. We may look at other properties locally to identify our needs and then return home sit down and look at the problems we may have. No rush.
Agree that the murcia area will be the most suitable area especially for non motorhome links in the future. Thanks for your input (y)

Bloody rules.
We are probably going to end up around the 180 days a year in Spain and end up with a small place in the uk
Hopefully fairly simple when I get my Maltese passport.
Not ideal as I didn’t want to have a uk property. But needs must (y)
