Earlier today we went to what was one of my favourite places in the world. We could not get down to the harbour all the access roads were blocked with 6ft boarding. We did get a picture from the entrance to the castle which was also closed.
Apparently the harbour area and surrounding buildings are undergoing complete refurbishment they are expected to reopen for the summer season.
I hope they get it right otherwise they have destroyed the Jewel from the island of Cyprus.

Remarkable they can renovate the whole harbour area all at once.
Never been but it doesn't look especially pretty from your photo.
When I went to Cyprus crossing to the north was forbidden ☹️

Same here.

My son was part of the UN forces in Cyprus a few (good few) years ago and said north Cyprus was much prettier than the south. He tried to organise a kayak expedition to circumnavigate the whole island as part of the reconciliation but there were too much red tape for him to navigate in the time he had so it didn't happen.

I’m going late April, used to enjoy a meal down the harbour But haven’t been down there for a while. Will report back!

Went to Kyrenia in about 1973 before the Greek/Turkish changeover. Landed at Nicosia, scared by the guards with guns, had to have the right nationality coach driver to take us to the hotel. Many UN troops there. Such a pretty area, hired a mini and visited friends who lived in Platres, in the Troodos mountains. Do hope they don’t spoil the harbour area.

I spent 3years in Cyprus (RAF) in the late '60's, to visit we had to have UN escort to visit the north, I spent honeymoon at Kyrenia

We went to Posnan in Poland before Xmas. It was a beautiful town but the whole town centre was dug up for redevelopment. Two years without the old town square and approach roads. Won't be finished until the end of this year. What a way to shoot your tourist trade in the foot.

I have some photographs taken in 1959 when some of the crew of the minesweeper HMS Woolaston (360 tons) were waterskiing behind the ship off Kyrenia. This 'activity' was unknown to the Senior Officers on Cyprus, but our C.O., a Lt Joel was a character. The Chief Engine Room 'Tiffy' hated his beloved diesel engines being overstressed but had no option. Our 'secret' was blown when an Army Patrol light aircraft that flew over asked what we were doing, as we should have been some distance away carrying out patrol duties around the Island intercepting EOKA gunrunners. The fast thinking Skipper came up with some excused that was accepted.
Tot time I think!

I went to Cyprus in about 1973 and enjoyed a very good lunch in the Police canteen (open to the public) on the slope up to the castle.

I also had an excellent lunch at '5 1/2 mile beach' (East of Kyrenia) with a beautiful Swedish model that I met in the Hilton Hotel.

Nice to see you around again.

I am surprised you needed an escort in late '60s as the Turkish invasion did not happen until July 1974.

[Now a confession]

To my shame, when I was on a contract flying for Sun Express, based in Antalya, I did operate a flight into N. Cyprus, against my morals, as I considered the occupation by the Turks as illegal, as does most of the world.

Like lots of posters I liked Kyrenia and the North of Cyprus, but I would never go there again until the Turks leave. Compare the situation then with Ukraine now. Would you go to Russian-occupied Crimea/Ukraine?
