Bad news for any Knaus owners with a broken Habitation Door Lock Spring. See photos 😱

Response from Knaus, they don't sell the spring part and one h now has to buy the complete lock, see Knaus email response 🤬

I've had 3 springs break over the last 10 years, but made them myself.

That would be 3 times €210 (see quotation for new door lock) = €630, for fixing broken springs, bit of a rip off for fitting under designed springs in the locks, but no doubt a profitable business for Knaus 🤔

Unfortunately, I don't have the broken bits to the spring shown as they got lost somewhere over the 7 months I was traveling through Aftrca.

So, if anyone knows where one of these springs can be purchased, I'd be very greatful.

Or alternatively an accurate drawing or photo with the dimensions so I could try and make one.

Looks similar although not the same as my Hartal door lock made by Zadi. The spring releases the interior lock? I made one from piano wire. simple coil, lock needs to be removed from the door to separate it enough to fit the new spring.

If you can get the dimensions of the required spring these guys would probably be able to help.
Got springs for our Hartel door door catches from them for next to nothing!

He makes springs for Hymer habitation doors and sells them on ebay.
Might be worth contacting him to see if he can make you one, or if it's the same as a Hymer lock, he will have it in stock

Hi,

Yes, the spring releases the door lock.

The door is made by Hartal, it has it's brand name on the door.

But there is no brand name on the lock, but I suspect it was also probably made by Hartal.

Or maybe by Zadi?

I remember that the spring is a special shape.

One end has an extension but I can't remember how long the extension was.

A photo for reference would be helpful.

Thanks for your reply to my post 🦘

Hi, and thanks for your reply.

That's the problem, I lost the bits during my Africa trip 🤬

So I don't have the dimensions and I remember it had a short straight extension at one end.

If I could get a photo of one, I could probably make one 👍

Cheers and thanks for the contact you provided.

Cheers 🥂

Hymer use Zadi locks - see Matt Cushing above
Hymer doors are made by Hartal according to their website, so it appears the door lock supplier to Hartal is Zadi.

Maybe I need to try and find Zadi, and see if I can get a spring from them 🤔

exactly this. I had a Rapido door issue once. Rapido dealers said "non"

I contacted Hartal themselves who had the spare parts in my hand in a few days via their UK rep.

Exactly the same door. Fits over the latch and locking prongs and cannot be opened.

No springs in the latch parts Lenny, rods from the lock operate the moving ones. Half of the lock slides forward when locked to prevent the door being opened, the spring pulls it back when the internal release is pulled.

Many thanks for the responses.

I have a friend in Germany who I contacted and is going to contact Hartal.

Hoping something comes out of this.

It's a bit scandalous that one has to buy a complete new door lock at €210 for a single spring.

And the door lock has 4 springs inside and this is the 3rd spring that has broken.

IF we Funsters couldn't make things ourselves and improvise, we'd be well and truely screwed over by these guys 🤬

Thanks everyone 🙏

Hi Clive,

Many thanks is this workaround for a Knaus door?

I've posted a photo of my door, is it similar to the one you used this workaround on?

That would be really helpful if it was 👌

Thanks Clive,

I've ordered one of the yellow things 😂

It takes the pressure off until I can get a spring made somehow 👍

My one needed a little bit of adapting for it to work, but it works well.

Dethleffs door springs are a similar nightmare, after replacing 3 i bought some spring steel which was thicker by 0.2mm and made my own with some pliers and a bolt to wrap the spring part , it was very easy to be honest and has lasted for a year without issue also i have enough to make another few with the leftover which i keep in the van. Side note, i can now strip a dethleffs door in 5 mins flat , if only it was an olympic sport :)
