Asking anyone who's been to Kintyre. What places to go would you recommend.
We are going for a week, with 2 days on Gigha.😊

Well, you could take the Alantic side road ( of long and winding road fame) and have majestic views of the sea etc., and a long largely uneventful run to Campbeltown.... OR you could take the inside route....single track with passing places, interesting bays, villages, historic nic nacs, the odd seafood shack and imodium inducing moments with sharp turns and steep braes.

On arrival at Campbeltown you can explore the whisky heritage ( whilst huming to the tune of the late, great Andy Stewart...Campbeltown Loch [I wish you were whisky]) visit the biggest hardware shop in the world ( Well,in the peninsula at least) look up the coal mining and ship building history and of course consider the huge airfield at Machrihanish and its role in the cold War.Then there's the Beatles connection.
Machrihanish caravan site is a buet, can be windy and a tad exposed but with first class facilities and a bus stop to and from Campbeltown outside the gate. And, just up the road is a golf club, apparently some folk fly into the airport to play there.

Then there's the trip to the Mull........

Enjoy...we did

We were up that way earlier this year filling in a couple of bits we missed on out 2015 'Coast of Scotland Tour'.
They were a complete contrast to each other...

The B844 off the A83 at Kilninver towards Balvicar and Ellenabeich was a lovely run with plenty of places to stop off and have a wander.

The second bit, the B8024, of the A83 at Inverniel towards Loch Caolisport, started off lovely with a new (single track) road initially but reverted later to the original single track road which had some nice views but there was nowhere at all to stop and admire the view. There seemed to be a lot of 'private road' and 'no parking' signs and we both got a sense of unwelcomeness. The road continued like this all the way round to Tarbert where it rejoined the A83. Perhaps it was just one of those days but neither of us felt we wanted to return in the future.

We also enjoyed a walk along the Crinan Canal at Lochgilpead..

Enjoy.

Has anyone else visited Kintyre. Thinking of visiting sometime this spring. Only 2 comments on this thread. One positive, one not so positive. Any additional advice guidance such as wild camping, best month in Spring to visit, other places to visit or stay that's not been suggested in previouse posts.🙂

I am sure there is lots on Kintyre and from time to time we consider going back. We went, as part of a tour of Scotland, over 40 years ago. It is the only holiday we have cut short! We had a trailer tent at the time. We parked up on the west coast and nearly everyone was trying to get tents etc down in a howling gale. The weather was absolutely vile, either pouring rain or fog. We went to the lake district, which was much drier! Dont be put off by our experiences. We went to Gigha also, in the rain!

We went on our way out to Islay, we love Scotland but this area and Islay were my least impressive areas.
