So we are finding all sorts of things in our new (to us) Moho. The previous owner has used Kerosene to run the diesel hot air heater. Does that raise any alarm bells? Or am I being over sensitive?

More than you ever wanted to know here:

but probably doesn't answer your question!

Probably got oil heating at home and using that instead of diesel as it's only half the price of road fuel

We use kerosene for central heating at home (lower tax for one thing) but it is not to be used as road fuel.

Our stand alone emergency diesel heater will run on just about anything from diesel to kerosene to paraffin to cooking oil :)

I always run our diesel heater on our van on kerosene 28 which is home heating oil as do many other.
Home heating oil runs cleaner as it does not have the additives that road diesel has in it.

Ah! Thank you all, such a source of information! Now does anyone know what Kerosene is called in France?
l'huile de chauffage ?

Careful as paraffin is known as kerosene in some countries and I would not like to run our diesel heater on that.

I thought they were the same thing.

Apparently it's Petrol pour chauffage for Kerosene. Not to be confused with Essense for petrol and Gas oil for diesel.

Considering we have lived in France for 20 years I should have known. About Kerosene I mean.

Again, thanks everyone.
As a newbie I will/do have a lot of questions!

I think you will find that petrol pour chauffage is what we call paraffin in the UK, which you would normally burn in a Valor stove or a greenhouse heater.
Home heating oil is very close to diesel, as in home heating oil empties out of a specific measuring cup in 28 seconds and diesel in the same measuring cup in 35 seconds.
Paraffin is nearer to the viscosity of petrol.

We can get red diesel which is cheaper than pump diesel in the UK, do the French have an equivalent ?

Will probably work fine. Kerrosene is thinner than Diesel and the jets are different for each. Kerrosene will work with a Diesel jet but rarely the otherway round for any length of time.

What jets in a diesel heater on a motorhome are you talking about then as Eberspacher, Webasto and Chinese diesel heaters do not use jets ?

From memory kerosene requires an outside flue but paraffin is more refined and could be used indoors although they're both from the same family of 28 second fuels.

Unless I'm mistaken, the discussion is about these types of heaters on a motorhome.
