hi
just signed for our new motor home and receive it in 2 weeks. We are sat here thinking what do we do next and what shall we spend our £250 vouchers on. We are total novices to motor homing:D2

Hi
Welcome. What MH are you getting?
Kind regards

Congratulations - so exciting! Don’t rush to spend them yet, I would advise booking a site very close to dealer for at least first night. Then you can easily pop back if there are any questions or you have forgotten all the handover instructions ! :D

Just take with you some essentials from home, bedding, kitchen things and food to make a meal and test out kitchen and fridge etc. Don’t forget the bubbly and glasses!
Enjoy and we’ll be here if you need us, waiting for the photos.

Yep, use it first and then decide what tinkering and additional toys you want to buy.

If you spend your first night on a site, there's normally people around to help out if you've forgotten something.

Enjoy

Agree with Riverbankannie, don't buy ANYTHING yet, get a few nights in first. After that depends on what comes with the van.

Essentials you WILL need - hookup cable, toilet fluid, toilet roll, a means of refilling the water tank (suggest a long-necked watering can to start with). For the moment raid your home cupboards for crockery, cutlery, pots & pans, bedding and the like. After a trip or two you can then have a look at the accessory places with a much better idea of what to spend your voucher on. Please don't buy on a whim - we've all got cupboards full of "useful stuff" that never gets used! If you use a campsite, many have a small shop that has emergency items (such as a bottle/tin opener!)

Chat to other motorhomers, see what they do. Generally you'll find everybody is friendly (even fellow Funsters!) and will be happy to offer advice and/or assistance.

It's a big adventure, treat it like that and most importantly enjoy. Don't forget to report back on how you get on.

Hi
thanks for the advice(y).

The motor home is an Eldiss 115 2.0 130bhp 2018 version. Seemed huge to us until we went into the showroom and saw the others:LOL:
Comes with reversing camera, solar panel, microwave, alarm, awning, alloy wheels, diamondbrite treated.

Just reading up on the Gas bottles and which types we need.

Can you park up at home and use it for a night or two ?
Get bits to leave in the mh. Makes it much easier when you go away.
And congratulations!

Hi

Just reading up on the Gas bottles and which types we need.

Refillable ones. Autogas 2000 or similar. Just like ordinary bottles but with the ability to refil at petrol stations. If you are thinking of going abroard then it makes far more sense as you cannot get Calor bottles in France or Spain.

We've all got stacks of "useful stuff" in the loft or in the garage! Often still in original packaging! Yay for accessory stalls and camping shops!:rofl::rofl:

My best buy when starting out was my first satnav. Which I still have as a backup.

Go on eBay and buy a small Propane cylinder for about £ 5 empty and get a refill at the dealer.
Take your time deciding if you need refillable gas etc it all depends on your personal way of using your van.

We bought one of those last year (it is a 2014 model) and a very pleased with it. Used it for two months over the last twelves months throughout the year including December to April. Space is at a premium so I would take the advice of many here and buy the minimum and then add as you need it / see how others do things. For instance we have only just bought a washing line, bucket and small table for outside or as a coffee table inside. You can store quite a lot of stuff behind the seats when travelling.

The only thing I would definitely recommend is a silver screen or similar. It keeps it warmer / cooler and stops condensation completely. But, almost as important we find is that it means you don't have to draw the curtains and that creates a lot more space in the footwells, dashboard lockers and on the dash board itself to store things. None of which you can access when the curtains are drawn.

My only other observation is that I expect we will trade it in for something better in a couple of years when we expect to be away for longer and I will use it as a base for my doctoral research. Inevitably you realise exactly what you need, but we bought it with that in mind. You get a lot for your money.

Enjoy and by all means contact me with any questions.

Congratulations on your purchase. We have the 155 with pretty much the same spec and love it. Sitting in it in Norfolk just now. Enjoy your travels and don't worry about it looking big, you'll get used to it. Welcome to the group.

As previously posted, dont buy anything yet

The “essentials” you imagine you need never are and the stuff you do need is probably not even on your list yer

Enjoy your new funmobile
