My wife and I have enjoyed 10 winters in Spain in the last 13 years .
However,
To accommodate my adult daughter and her 9 year old (school summer holidays } we are heading to Spain July 1st until middle of August.
Dover to Calais booked 1st July with PO ,We will be chugging along with our 29 year old Talbot Express 2500 diesel.
( I am 76 and prefer to dawdle rather than dash.)

I am hoping the weather is pleasant( 21) but not too hot(28)
We think we will visit/stay at or near

San Sebastian ,Pamplona, Zaragoza -
and then Pyrenees maybe ,then
Cambrills, Salou, Tossa de Mar , Sant Feliu de Guixols, Roses

We will mostly stay wild or Aires and occasionally " bells and whistles" Campsites to please
9 year old Olivia
Any comments ,tips or suggestions most welcome as we are flexible ,

Leo

I think you are likely to find it very hot. When we lived there, on the coast in Murcia, it was very hot during those months and we tended to avoid the sun when possible. It’s not like going for a 2 week holiday when you’re there for week in week out.

However I would also say I sailed 4 days a week still in August, just kept well hydrated and skin well covered, so it is doable although we lived in a house, had great air conditioning and a pool too.

I would not like to do it now in our Motorhome but plenty do. Enjoy Cantabria and the basque area. Try to take something you can use to create a shade for you & the van. We love Pineda del Mar 😊

The weather could well be outside your comfort zone in July and August.
Motorhomes do get overheated in hot weather and can be difficult to cool, especially with four occupants I'd imagine it could get very uncomfortable.
Could you tailor you destination to suit the weather conditions ?
Stay in France, or find some mountains for cooler weather ?

In terms of weather, maybe north coast (Atlantic) of Spain more likely to fit desired temperature? Although, it can also be far less settled - it can be wet. I think it’s quite popular with Spanish families because it’s not quite as hot.

ACSI campsite- Camping Urbasa would entertain a 9 year old as it has ponies and donkeys roaming around the nature park. We loved our visitors

I’ve just come up from there in the last two weeks and it very hot, the temperatures may say 26c for example but the “feels like” temperature will be mid 30’s… very sticky at night in the van… be prepared 😎

We live in Murcia and for the last three summers (since limited travel in COVID times) we've stayed in Spain. Galicia was the only part that had reasonable temperatures (mid 20s+/-). We decided to go across to the Pyrenees from Galicia on our 1st summer. Got almost to Pamplona, hit temperatures in the mid 30's (the same in the French Pyrenees also) so about turned and went back.

This summer we're "doing" the French part first. We've had hot weather and now a week of storms. The forecast is for temperatures to start rising into the 30's again. We'll be making our way west in July and hoping for some cooling breezes once we get to Galicia.

Just to add to what Judith has written...here in the French Pyrenees this coming Sunday it will be around 32°c and it's only the end of June...
Spain in July and August is hot, uncomfortable and crowded ....the ACSI scheme generally isn't available then...so full price camping is the only option....
The true northern coastline progressing westwards is more natural...like being in Devon and Cornwall rather than a week in Blackpool...it's suits us well...👍🇪🇦

We are going to Costa Brava in August. Yes it’s busy but everywhere is during summer holidays. Always has been and always will be.
Roses, Empuriobrava, Torroella, Estartit, Blanes, Tossa de Mar - all nice places to visit.
There’s always the beach and sea cool down on.
I think you’ll have a great time and create some fabulous memories. Enjoy

I think your post makes us think you mean North Coast of Spain which is totally different to the North Eastern Mediterranean coast.

The Northern coast could be hot, but could also be wet and windy (although you would have to be unlucky) the North Eastern med will definitely be very hot.

Hi
I’m sure you know August will be hot and busy but a great place to visit at any time.
Sant feliu de Guixols - market day Sunday.
Calella de Palafrugell - gorgeous little town always has a sea breeze.
For Bells and Whistles try Cypsela camp site in Pals. Probably best to book in advance.
Book a pitch with privee sanitaire so you have your own bathroom.
Pals is a lovely medieval town.
We left the area yesterday and now in Sarlat in the Dordogne as we head back to Ouistreham for the ferry.
Have fun!

We too live in Murca and one day next week we'll be making a 1000km 2-day dash to Vigo for more temperate climes for a month. That corner of Galicia, on the coast at least, has daytime highs in the mid-20's, and is often cloudy, sea frets are common. Spent most of last summer there. Temps in central Spain next week are forecast to hit 40deg in places. Hence the 'dash'.
Pyrenees are hot in summer in my experience unless you can get high. With altitude, that is ...

Us too Nigel...we have 30°c here near Cauterets, fortunately we have some shade, more later as it disappears behind a large tree..had 3 rides here and now it's time to move on the pastures cooler than here....got until mid October to be back home..that's when the dogs auto feeder needs topping up...if it runs out earlier, the postman would provide enough protein to sustain them...
Safe travels...save some Octipi for us..🤔👍🇪🇦
