Is it possible to connect an 8mm black coated steel pipe to an 8mm copper pipe? If you use a standard compression fitting will you get corrosion between the steel pipe and the brass or copper olive? Is there a special compression fitting to use for this job?

Is it like my set up and you have to cut the nipple off first? Interested as I've resisted doing this so far.

No sealant or tape on any fittings ⚠️
More likely to cause a leak
Only ever use tape or sealant on a threaded connection.
It is actually specifically included in the leisure vehicle standard.

Plus a reminder that GAS PDFE Tape is different than WATER PDFE tape.

Technically the only correct answer is that all the pipe work should be of the same material, but as it’s pretty much impossible to get the matching steel tubing in the UK most people do use copper seemingly without any problems.
Some fitting manufacturers do say that their brass fittings can be used on steel pipe work (personally I don’t like that idea)
We use the GOK fittings in our workshop, they match what was used originally in most vans with steel pipes and they are nice to use quality fittings.

Why would you want to cut the olive off unless you need to shorten the pipe ?
I would prefer not to, but have been unable to source a spare new replica of the current GOK and Cavagna arrangment.

We have some similar bottle mounted regulators but you might need an adapter, the other alternative would be to mount a bulkhead regulator straight onto your existing fitting on the pipe work you have.
Obviously that’s if it is high enough as you really want the regulator above the outlet valve on your gas bottle.

Thanks, height isn't an issue as the pipe end is higher than the top of the 6kg bottles, [ see 1st picture ]. I prefer the current arrangement as I know exactly when the each bottle ready for a change over inconvenient or not . I'll give you a call.
Mike.

You would get the exact same result with a bulkhead mounted regulator with a single regulator hose (pigtail)
