Joining Facebook, but in limited way

I have always been reluctant to join social media websites, other than MH forums, where the membership is quite limited.

Recently friends have been encouraging me to join Facebook because of the possible information available for some of my problems.

I understand that it is possible to join only limited groups on FB and block out other extraneous ones.

I would like advice on how the mechanics of FB work in order to limit my exposure to only those groups that I am interested in.

I'd have a google* of "how to set up facebook with maximum privacy" and alter the settings accordingly.

I think that if you are very strict with the people you select as 'friends' you should have no problems.
Just befriend only those you really want to be in contact with.

Join only those groups that interest you, you can always leave or "snooze" groups, or people, for 30 days if the posts are of no interest. You can also limit who sees your posts.
