Since 2015, still learning
Evening everyone!
researching online about some batteries for future upgrades and I was wondering if anyone knows whether the JBD bms used on the fogstar drift is the same as this JBD (overkill) used by other companies. Does it give the same ability to adjust charging and discharging parameters on the fogstar?

this YouTube video show the overkill solar version of what I think is the same bums as the fogstar one.

thanks for your time,
Cush

I think Will had the 100A BMS, so clearly not the same as those in the Fogstars capable of 200A.
If I was building a battery I’d not go below 230AH, prefer 300AH.

The one Fogstar use only has passive balancing on the Drift range apart from the underseat one and the pro range & they require an addition modual for it.

Cush if you’re buying cells off Alibaba or AliExpress I’d definitely go for a BMS with activate balancing.

Thanks RogerIvy and Lenny HB for your time and thoughts. I’m not going as far as building my own battery from smaller cells.

TBH I was looking at going down a hybrid route. It is gaining a lot of traction in other 12 v communities and there is a company that sell LiFePO4 batteries with a bms (JBD Overkill) that is capable of doing the electronic magic to enable it to be linked directly with a FLA battery without the need for further electronics / relays or change in infrastructure. As the batteries are a bit more expensive than the fogstar drifts, that also use a BMS called a JBD, I wondered if they were in fact the same BMS.

I’m guessing “not” now.

thanks again for your time,
Cush

Quite a few people using LifePO4 in parallel with LA without any extra electronics, they appear to work well.
