We’ve got a month off and the plan is to start in the Orkney Islands and then see what happens.

Set off from Kent early on Friday night. Overnight at The Metal Bridge just south of Gretna. Writing this on Sunday morning in outside the Bannockburn Inn where I was forced to drop the low carb diet for the most massive burger you ever saw. (Called the NC500, it also comes with a huge slice of haggis.)

Recommend this pub - very friendly landlady (from Brighton) and locals. Whisky was tasted.

Photos here, I’ll have to find out how to add them from my iPad.

Booked on the 13:30 ferry from Gills Bay.

Wow... that is some burger. Do you eat it or climb it. Have a fab journey Zingano. :)(y)

We stopped at Helmsdale harbour and visited the Bannockburn Inn and although it was a great wee pub I didn't like the burger.

Remember not to miss the Whaligoo steps (spelling)

I liked the burger but was very glad I had a ravenous dog to help me with it!

Ere how can you leave from Kent and start off in the Orkney islands ?

Ooh love these Scottish threads, still planning!

Starting holiday proper. We took two days hard driving to get up here. On Orkney now.

A must see is the Tomb of the Eagles but go so you arrive at 9am. You get a fab walk along the cliff to the tomb and being first there you get to roll in on the trolley with no one else watching!

Thanks for the tips, love them!

We’re now in the campsite in Kirkwall for a few days, much needed emptying of cassette, proper showers etc.

Last night really struggled to find a dog friendly pub - blog has been updated. https://denby.home.blog/

Today we’re booked into Highland Park but the weather forecast is so good we’d rather be out and about so will try to change it.

Welcome to Scotland , weathers looking good , makes all the difference, hope you enjoy our country

Having a fantastic time thanks, barbecue tonight which must be pretty good for anywhere in the UK let alone Orkney. Had an amazing tour of Higlamd Park today, lovely bunch of people and whisky isn’t bad either.

You must try the other local whisky, Scapa, way better than Highland Park

Just spent the night at Rackwick on Hoy. Only two climbers in a VW for company. What an amazing place.
