We have ditched our Italian Lakes tour after 2 weeks due to iffy weather and now enjoying the sun just south of Cannes.
We have 8 ish days to get back to Calais and intend going via Gorges du Verdon then up through France but totally unplanned due to the ditching of the Italian lakes trip. Any pointers for routes and sites would be really appreciated as we havnt done much touring in France.

We had a vague plan to do the glacier cable car at Aosta/Courmayeur but changed our mind because of the rubbish weather forecast and headed to South France instead. We have substituted the glacier with a visit to Dali’s house at Cala de Portlligat near Roses. It’s a place on our wish list that we’ve never got round to visiting. The glacier can remain on the list until another day.

After Gorge du Vedun, avoid the Alps by going west, lovely Provence, Rousillon, Gordes, Apt, Pont du Gard etc.
A nice dutch site here with a view of Mont Ventoux and a lovely pool

Did exactly the same a few years ago. Italy is lovely but you do tend to get horrendous thunderstorms and torrential rain. Very unpredictable.

Now in the Dordogne and it’s sunny and has been for days
Which part? We are near Nontron and yesterday afternoon was the first time we’ve been able to sit out. In fact first time in two weeks it’s been over 20degrees!

Try stopping at Moustier st Marie. It’s near lac st croix & is a lovely place with a ccp Aire at bottom of village, from there you can easily access the verdon gorges on your way north

That’s all I needed. We’re travelling through Switzerland and arrive to start our Italian lake tour tomorrow. We have had rain everyday for the last 8 days but this morning the sun is shining so hopefully it’s the start to brighter days ahead. Hopefully for the next 4 weeks.

We're into week 7 this morning, currently sitting outside having a late breakfast at camping Azzurro lake Ledro, it's rather nice and we haven't had rain for at least 24 hours

My father, when based in Germany had a very simple maxim.
"Drive south until the sun comes out"
Which meant some holidays in southern Germany, others in Austria, several in northern Italy, and quite a few on the Adriatic coast.
You never knew where you were going, but you knew to pack a t-shirt and shorts

One year after sitting for 2 weeks on Lake Garda in the worst weather they could remember we decided to leave. The nearest place with consistently dry forecast was Perpignan! So we drive the 600 miles or so almost due east in the 2 days on toll motorway and enjoyed 3.5 weeks of totally dry weather before heading towards U.K. again. We always said we would do such as this if needed but never have had to before. Beauty of having a Motorhome 😊

Edit, due west not east, we’ll spotted Brains 😂😂😂

That may have been the mistake!
600 miles due east of Lake Garda would put you in Budapest, Hungary!

Maybe you were wondering why 'The french' seem to live on a diet of goulash !
