Sorry, I know this is the bane of every funsters life but its an important one!
I have a thetford 200 in this new to me van, and so far never been lucky enough to get away in nice weather, I’m great at picking the bad weekends☹️
But this weekend we’ve struck gold however the smell of urine from the toilet is something else even though the cassette was fresh before we come away. I’ve ordered a freshen up kit of cassette and seat but in preparation is there anything else I can do? I have green fluid in the tank, used thetford bathroom cleaner on the bowl and even added a splash of bio liquid and it smells terrible. Any tricks before I install the cassette and clean the holding area?

Ok I will copy & send shortly. I have never had a C200 so cannot remember where I got it. It may have been at one of the motorhome shows. However I attach a link to an exploded diagram of the C200. The equivalent bit that I was referring to is on the sheet as number 5 & 6 on the sheet. They are ( or mine was ) easy to remove when you know about it. When you get replacement parts they have always sent a clear diagram explaining what to do. Anyway have a look at the diag & I will send the copy of instructions for the main lip seal shortly.

Thank you that would be great. Always good to have stuff like this as very difficult on times to find on Google what you need 😃

If it's any help I have a C403 cassette, which is a bit bigger than the 200... But a few years ago we had a constant smell from the bathroom & had difficulty tracing the source. I replaced the main seal & the smell was still present. After a bit of investigation &:a major clean out ( making sure I had rubber gloves on with no holes!! ) I found out there is a vent in the top of the unit which is something to do with pressure & it has a seal, which is replaceable. but it has to be approached from inside the cassette & a simple twist to remove it. When I first took it out I couldn't see the seal but that was because it had stuck to the inside. However when I put a new seal in the smell had disappeared. That may be a similar problem with yours. Looking at all my bits of paper & instructions I have a sheet showing how to replace the main lip seal for a C200. If you want I can scan & send a copy. Also for the C2/C3/C4/C250 & C400.
Is the 200 fundamentally the same as the 200/ if not could I ask for the pdf for the 250.
Regards.
Mike.

I think the 250 is smaller overall. They do look slightly different in this picture actually

Looking at my sheet the 250 & the 400 are on the reverse of the sheet. I will copy it & send it over.

Sorry to crash in on someone else's thread, but we have the same issue. Thus weekend in the heat was horrendous. When we picked the MH up, I bleached the loo to within an inch of it's life and got in all the nooks and cranny. The cassette is almost new and we soaked that for a couple of days when we first got it home and with that out, the smell of urine was still overpowering.
It has improved a bit since I bleached the loo and then we removed a plastic panel that was along side the plastic panel below the loo. We've left that out for now and that has allowed me to bleached the floor and any joins around the loo base. But it still stinks of wee.
Can anyone tell us how the loo comes out? Is it easy? I can't see anything holding it in place to unscrew or are the screws below in the cassette locker?
I can post a pic of it if it helps. I'm seriously considering a new loo as the hotter it gets the worse it gets :sick::sick:

We've started keeping a box of dish washer tablets in the van. I throw a couple down the the bog which seems to help a lot. I also dissolve a couple in the wash hand basin and chuck that down the sink to keep the waste tank sweet(er).

Sorry to hear you have the same problem, I feel less alone though! Hopefully someone will be along to tell you how to get the loo out. In my case it’s coming from the cupboard the cassette is in, have you cleaned in there?

Although no expert, my gut feeling is that the cassette itself should be sealed & no smells should be evident. The design of the toilet itself should be sealed enough to prevent any leaks or accident. (Although I suspect that if you pull up the loo seat you may find a couple of screws there as a start.) Therefore if you get smells of a toilet nature iris likely to be one, or all of the rubber seals on the actual cassette. Although the method of replacement will vary according to the model you have it will still be basically the same issue. I n my case I had two issues. The first being the main 'lip seal'. I noticed this because when I was taking the unit to empty, I noticed that liquid was dripping down the unit. When I purchased a new seal I was told that it is a common problem in cassettes that flush from the main water supply rather than a ' flush tank'. I was not aware of this but now give the rubbers a quick spray with a silicon lubricant on a occasional basis. The second incident was getting a smell as we opened the motorhome door after a day out. After investigation I found that I also had another seal in the vent which I didn't know existed. I replaced this, which was quite easy, & the smell amazingly disappeared. Hence my initial suggestion was that this may be the cause & could save a lot of money on bleach, or other cleaning materials and/or replacement cassettes. The models vary but , in my case, when I got the par, clear installation instructions were provided. I also got some other instructions when visiting one of the Thetford stalls at one of the motorhome shows. ( Which I have sent on a pre message) the video I sent was posted on YouTube so a lot of info is there but just have to find it. I hope this info is of use!! Cheers to all.

the screws are accessed inside the cassette area and it is likely that it is sealed in with silicone too. Remove the screws and it should pull up off the wall bracket

For persistent urine smells/staining you can buy biocide sprays. Commonly sold in pet shops for puppy accidents and in care home supply shops. A friend of mine was a crime scene cleaner and he had some super strength stuff that you dilute. Can't recall the brand name of that, but again it was a biocide that neutralised the bacteria causing the smell

We've had removed the cassette for days now and it still honks inside the MH - the heat isn't helping 🤢
I've cleaned out the cassette cupboard and stuck my head inside and it smells clean, so it's not from there. No crannies and cracks left to clean on the loo itself so I think it's under the plastic loo surround. We've removed one half and ugh, what was under there was stinky and congealed but I just can't fathom how it got there. So the plan is to take the loo out and the plastic it sits on out.
I'd forgotten about the cleaning stuff you mentioned, John. We used some when we moved in here as the previous owners had an incontinent dog and parquet flooring. But the pet solution we used smelt lovely and got rid of the funk with one application.
Hopefully it'll work but I'm certain it won't go until everything is removed and cleaned under.
I can't bear to think how it all got under there 😬😬

99p from home bargains - apparently there is a dearer option at £5 but this works fine ...

Looking at this from another angle, and hope this is not being too personal, but apparently your diet, fluid intake etc. can have effects.

Just found this on the NHS website:
  • certain types of food and drink, like asparagus or coffee
  • not drinking enough fluids
  • some medicines
  • vitamin B6 supplements

Don't worry, after reading all our toilet threads some campsite owners are installing a special toilet hut for Funsters.

I keep a spray bottle with a dilute bio tab in it to spray the bowl “after use”! 👃 🌸
